Position Summary 


We’re looking for an experienced leader to join our team and manage the day to day operations of the Device Applications team. You’ll be responsible for planning the work and ensuring its execution in a timely manner and with the highest standards of quality. The team’s primary focus is the development and maintenance of the applications running on Miovision and third-party roadside hardware. Using data compiled from devices at the intersection, including Miovision proprietary computer vision modeling, and served through the Miovision Application Platform, your team builds applications to enhance the traffic experience for drivers and cities.

These applications span multiple product lines, such as Miovision Opticom, Surtrac and intersection analytics and safety. You’ll report to the Director, Software Platform Development and work closely with teams across the organization, such as QA, Architecture, Product Owners and other Software Managers.

Key Accountabilities


  • Responsible for all device application deliverables within the Opticom, Surtrac, and analytics product lines.
  • Responsible for supporting the QA engineers in the development and deployment of test infrastructure and comprehensive test plans.
  • Lead the day to day operations of engineers across North America, including daily standups, backlog refinement, and quarterly planning.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to developers.
  • Define and implement best practices for repositories and build systems, testing, tools, continuous improvement, and support of other teams.
  • Work closely with other leaders in product management, software (application and cloud), and customer support.
  • Ensure a timely and thorough response to all customer issues through the Engineering Support Escalation (ESE) process.
  • Maintain knowledge of emerging technologies applicable to Miovision’s products.
  • Optimize performance through advanced caching strategies and infrastructure migrations, improving latency and system performance.
  • Lead strategic cost-saving initiatives, reducing operational expenses while maintaining high service quality.

Skills/Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or similar.
  • 2+ years experience leading a team, and 6+ as an application engineer or developer.
  • Experience with one or more of the following languages: Java/Kotlin, C#, Node.JS, Python.
  • Experience with the following tools: Git, Docker, GitLab, Linux, AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka.
  • Experience working with third-party SDKs and development platforms.
  • A passion for building products our customers love and the team is proud of.
  • Data-driven and able to dig into technical details to understand a system or problem.
  • Able to effectively collaborate with a multidisciplinary team (EE, QA, Software, etc.) in person and virtually.
  • Able to give and receive constructive feedback on designs, processes, and ideas.
  • Proven experience in implementing AI and data science integrations.
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools like Datadog and Splunk for system maintenance and performance tracking.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
