What You'll Do
Help drive the technical implementation workflows for Fortnite Cosmetic Animation, including Emotes, Gliders, Pickaxes, and Backpacks. You will lead a team of outsource artists in asset implementation and best practices, while looking at current workflows from an objective perspective, carving out ways to improve efficiencies in Unreal. You’ll be expected to take a proactive approach in asking questions, raising concerns, and providing solutions to artists across multiple disciplines, both outsourced and internal.
This is a key role in supporting ideas that push the current boundaries of what's currently able to be done, to the next level!
In this role, you will
- Work with a team of animators, both internal and outsource vendor teams, to implement, maintain, modify, and troubleshoot animation assets
- Be the technical contact to identify and resolve problems for departments that give inventory to or receive inventory from Animation; these include FX, Sound, Modelling, Rigging, Art, Programming, Tech Animation
- Take animations and implement in the game by creating montages, hooking up to data assets, and testing in game
- Guide/Support OS implementation artists
- Help shape animation montage implementation improvements in Unreal
- Work with multiple disciples to determine best workflows for a wide variety of different Cosmetic Animation setups and functionalities
What we're looking for
- Relevant experience in Unreal Engine 5 art pipeline and gameplay systems
- Experience shipping at least one title
- Experience with scripting and tools is a plus and a working knowledge of version control - Perforce preferred
- Comfortable documenting, explaining, and teaching processes to others: Excellent interpersonal skills, must possess ability to help artists with technical issues; serve as technical interface between departments
- Strong technical background that can help in decision making and idea conceptualization during concept syncs and brainstorms
- Proactive communicator
This role is open to multiple locations in North America (including CA & WA).

The expected annual base pay range(s) for this position are detailed below. Each base pay range is relevant only for individuals who are residents of or will be expected to work within the specified locale. Compensation varies based on a variety of factors, which include (but aren’t limited to) things such as skills and competencies, qualifications, knowledge, and experience. In addition to base pay, most employees are eligible to participate in Epic’s generous benefit plans and discretionary incentive programs (subject to the terms of those plans or programs).California Base Pay Range$143,485 - $210,444USDWashington Base Pay Range$134,876 - $197,817USD
