Position Objective:
The Geotechnical Engineering Manager adeptly manages multiple engineering efforts with competing deadlines and resources. This role works cohesively and collaboratively across companywide functional teams to include Development, Engineering, Accounting, Financial Planning, and Legal. The position reports to the Associate Director, Civil Engineering.This position will be focused on designing utility-scale and distributed generation solar energy facilities structural features and assist with civil engineering needs including but not limited to driven pile foundation designs, foundation staking plans, grading plans, hydrological engineering, stormwater management plans, and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans.
All site design features need to meet or exceed Conditional Use Permits requirements, building permit conditions, and other site requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Define and coordinate all geotechnical investigation work scope with external subcontractors
- Writing internal opinion reports based on results of geotechnical investigations
- Performing L-Pile Analysis for array foundations and auxiliary equipment foundations
- Assisting in the design of the civil engineering features for a large-scale solar array including grading design, access roads, attachment means, and modifications to support
- Collaborating with Real Estate team to refine scouting efforts related to anticipated subsurface conditions
- Formatting drawing plansets and maintaining AutoCAD template files and
- Producing cut/fill plans and quantities using AutoCAD Civil3d or similar program(s) to ensure the solar facility meets the maximum mounting system slope tolerance of the mounting system and optimizes the foundation material expenses.
- Participating in the development of the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), erosion, and dust control measures for the Project.
- Reading, interpreting, and understanding project documentation with a focus on fulfilling all the permit and site requirements with value driven designs.
Requirements:
- BS Degree in Civil, Structural or Geotechnical Engineering from an ABET accredited
- 3+ years of experience in Civil, Structural or Geotechnical Engineering, Preference for experience working on solar foundation design.
- PE certification
- Proficient in LPile analysis and design
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil3d is
- Experience with Google Earth or other mapping/GIS tools, as well as the use of online and public resources such as federal/state/county databases.
- Experience discussing and negotiating results of geotechnical investigation work with external subcontractors
- Hands-on surveying experience is
- A proven ability to provide efficient, timely, and reliable service to internal and external
- Keen analytic, organization, and problem-solving

- Ability to travel and access sites of varying Position requires semi frequent travel, up to 1-2 weeks per quarter or about 10% of working time; must carry an active driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
