EQUIREMENTS


  • BS in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or an approved related engineering discipline, with 0-5 years of experience.
  • In lieu of degree, at least 10+ years of relevant experience within the IGT repair community.
  • Technical knowledge of industrial gas turbines and / or steam turbines.
  • Technical knowledge of metallurgy, mechanical behavior, and materials processing.
  • Experience with optical, digital, and scanning electron microscopy.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Physical requirements per Engineering / Operations - Salaried Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
  • The candidate must be able to lift up to 50lbs and have the ability to stand for up to 8-12 hours per day, as
  • required.
  • Must pass background check and drug screening.

The Materials Engineer will support the Engineering and Operations Departments through the MaterialsLab. Tasks in additional departments may be assigned, as required.

ESPONSIBILITIES


  • Support of Engineering and Operations on technical information regarding material analysis.
  • Support the Materials Lab daily functions, including:
  • Metallurgical specimen preparation, including sectioning, mounting, polishing, etc.
  • Mechanical testing, including hardness, tensile testing, and stress rupture testing.
  • Perform microscopy on met samples using optical, digital, and scanning electron microscopes
  • Metallurgical evaluations of hardware, components, weld qualifications, and other items, as needed.
  • Support the growth and development of the Materials Lab:
  • Development of new and / or improved processes / procedures.
  • Development of standardized reporting formats for production jobs that require met samples.
  • Assist in the identification of new tools / hardware to support the materials lab.
  • Perform job duties and work ethic in a professional manner that is conducive with industry renowned
  • experts in their respective fields.
  • Adherence and compliance with the QHSE management system.
  • Streamline / Constantly evaluate job duties and look for ways to improve productivity by
  • implementing systems and / or tools.
  • Interact with customers and coworkers in a professional manner.
  • Generate documentation packages and reports, as required / assigned.
  • Generate work scopes as assigned by supervisor or Operations Supervisor.
  • Communicate with suppliers and issue purchase orders, as assigned.
  • Work with Operations to maintain a quality system that encompasses process procedures, testing procedures and protocol standards in the spirit of the ISO quality and environmental systems.
  • Any additional tasks as deemed necessary by the Materials Lab Supervisor or Director of Engineering.

ASKS


  • Provide technical support and problem solving to the Materials Lab.
  • Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of the DTS Welder Qualification and Weld Qualification procedures, while ensuring the operations team is fully qualified.
  • Assist with DTS coating system qualifications and production run qualifications on all components that are processed internally or externally, ensuring consistent quality from every batch.
  • Perform testing as required per Engineering direction, via mechanical, microstructural, and / or destructive test methods.
  • Collaborate with the DTS Inspection Department to develop and qualify inspection test methods,
  • including visual, penetrant, eddy current, ultrasonic, and other non-destructive test methods.
  • Travel to site, as required, to assist in material and metallurgical evaluations.
  • Ensure components purchased by the DTS team are to the correct specifications and quality standards via required sampling / testing.
  • Develop and qualify new vendors to be part of the DTS supply chain to continually improve offerings to customers, e.g. better quality, lead time, cost, etc.
  • Continuous review and evaluation of the engineering roles, with a goal of identifying improvement areas and implementing improvements.
  • Work with the Operations and Quality team to maintain ISO-compliance in all aspects of the workshop.
