PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful applicant will join ATR's Engineering and Systems Division, working as a member of the Technical Writing Teamat our government client site, located at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division. This is a full-time permanent position.
- Edit reports, manuals, white papers, and other technical documents submitted by engineers and scientists to ensure proper grammar, usage, consistency, and clarity in the presentation of the technical content
- Organize and maintain documentation structure and files
- Format documents according to U.S. Navy technical report editorial style to ensure that all documentation meets established standards for quality and compliance
- Editorially manage the review process and distribution of finalized documents, working with authors, subject matter experts, senior personnel, and other stakeholders
- Assist in managing physical and electronic libraries of published documents
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- BS or BA in liberal arts (preferably technical communication or English), science, or engineering
- 2–5 years’ experience in editing and/or writing about science, engineering, and/or technology
SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to edit and proofread technical writing, ensuring that complex concepts are written clearly and concisely
- Strong ability to use software tools for document creation and formatting, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Adobe Acrobat. Experience with image editing and/or LaTeX is a plus.
- Very strong writing and editing skills
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects without direct supervision
- Highly organized, with a penchant for detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Confident, energetic, and able to work in a team environment
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Candidate must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance or favorable adjudication of a national security background investigation.
