Job Summary
The Cell Product Development team is developing ONE’s battery cells for our rapidly growing business in automotive, grid, and commercial applications. Our objective is to design, prototype, evaluate, and scale-up novel cell product designs with focus on detail, innovation, and pack/systems integration. Successful cell designs will be scaled-up and manufactured in our 20 GWh cell factory in Van Buren Township, MI.As a Senior Cell Test Engineer, you will develop methods to evaluate and characterize new cell products which considerably improve energy density, power density, DC fast charge capability, safety, and cost over incumbent EV technologies.
Your focus will be to develop analysis (analytical, numerical, and empirical), characterization methods, and test plans, to evaluate materials, components, and cell designs, for energy/power density performance, safety performance, structural and thermal performance, DC fast charging, cost down, etc. You will work with suppliers, test/fabrication houses, and various in-house teams at ONE to execute cell and component test plans, to accelerate the time to market for new cell and materials technologies. We are looking for a passionate individual who shares our values. Our team is comprised of various integrated disciplines, including mechanical, structural, thermal, electrical, materials/chemistry, and software. Therefore, collaboration in group settings, ability to solve system integration challenges, and clear communication are valuable to becoming a successful team member. You should enjoy working in a small team where you will own substantial and critical parts of the final product. We are working on groundbreaking technologies, so you’ll be energetic, adaptable, and a fast learner who can make quick design judgments with limited information.
Responsibilities
- Develop internal test methods, test plans, and SOPs to characterize and evaluate component/cell designs (sub-scale and full-scale) and grow the cell testing and characterization infrastructure within the team.
- Work with external test houses and internal lab ops teams to execute test plans and ensure that testing conforms to SOPs.
- Routinely execute and analyze tests, including safety and abuse tests, themselves using our in-house test equipment and facilities.
