Like our small business customers, we are a diverse team of builders, dreamers, and entrepreneurs who are driven by core values and operating principles that guide every decision we make.Reporting directly to Pie’s Vice President of Finance, this role will be responsible for supporting Pie’s senior business leaders who run the departments that impact or are closely related to our Topline, including Sales & Marketing and volume-driven Operational departments. You will serve as a trusted advisor helping them forecast, budget, analyze, manage, grow, and optimize their functions. This involves modeling insurance premium drivers and related variable expenses, modeling headcount and other opex based on volume drivers, leading financial planning processes for the departments, , developing management reporting/dashboards, analyzing KPIs, and providing key business insights, and providing ad hoc analysis and other business partner support.
How You’ll Do It
- Business Partner Support and Analysis
- Proactively partner with department leaders, your Business Partners, to provide financial management and decision-making support including the allocation of resources against strategic objectives
- Lead and conduct strategic and analytical projects in collaboration with Business Partners to build business cases, identify new investment or cost saving opportunities, optimize internal processes, etc.
- Dig into data and analyze KPIs of the business for topline and other key drivers
- Provide Business Partners advice on reaching business growth and efficiency goals while staying within budget
- Serve as the connective tissue across teams, creating and strengthening cross-functional relationships
- Provide financial expertise and support to evaluation of and negotiations with key vendors and strategic partners
- Budgeting and Forecasting
- Develop annual, quarterly and monthly financial forecasts
- Build dynamic and complex models for forecasting and budgeting topline premiums for multiple lines of business
- Build dynamic, ratio-driven headcount forecasts and support/educate Business Partners in the headcount forecasting process and management to budget
- Work closely with the People and Talent team to inform headcount, hiring, and compensation decisions
- Collaborate with other Finance colleagues to inform near- and long-term financial forecasts
- Reporting
- Design reporting for relevant KPIs and analyze business trends
- Build executive-level reports while providing analytical, business insights
- Compile monthly, quarterly, and annual variance analysis and dig into variances; identify risks and opportunities to the budget and forecast; close the loop with identifying areas of improvement for our financial forecasts, utilizing key learnings to enhance our forecasting approach and methodologies
- Drive initiatives to continuously improve and automate forecasting and reporting tools and processes
The Right Stuff
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Accounting or related fields is required.
- 8+ years of total relevant experience in the areas of Finance or Accounting is preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) is preferred.
- Insurance industry experience is required (P&C experience is a plus). Insurance premium accounting familiarity is highly recommended.
- Advanced modeling skills for use in forecasting and budgeting including previous experience in revenue/premium modeling.
- Strong finance acumen and with a high attention to detail.
- Highly skilled in variance analysis and developing related commentary (budget vs actuals and vs forecast) for both topline and expenses.
- Exceptional analytical skills and natural curiosity for how the “why” behind company metrics and KPIs.
- Ability to work with large datasets.
- Strong preference to base decisions on data and ROI.
- Ability to identify areas of opportunity and drive projects from planning to completion.
- Experience in managing multiple work-streams end-to-end along with working across multiple functions and teams.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral/written communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with business stakeholders.
- Google Suite, Looker, Intacct, Adaptive and Workday experience or experience with related tools is a plus.
Base Compensation Range$130,000 - $160,000USD

Location Information
Unless otherwise specified, this role has the option to be hybrid or remote. Hybrid work locations provide team members with the flexibility of working partially from our Denver office and from home.
