SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER IN TEST (SDET)


Stellar Science develops software for use by experts across a range of engineering and scientific disciplines. We primarily build user-facing desktop applications that provide advanced visualizations and controls for modeling real-world systems in software.  We are seeking an experienced Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to help shape and maintain all aspects of software development from a quality perspective.At Stellar Science, everyone in the team owns software quality and testing. The SDET will work with in-house and external scientists and developers to help shape and maintain all aspects of software development from a quality perspective.

The primary function of this role is to drive automated testing at Stellar Science. Activities range from authoring unit tests in C++ and Python to developing UI and integration tests with tools like Selenium and Squish. Other key functions for this role include cross-team coordination to diagnose and resolve failing tests, developing and maintaining Continuous Integration (CI) pipelines and other build and test infrastructure, and occasional manual testing of software.The ideal candidate will be involved in all stages of the software development lifecycle to improve both the development and user experience.

Professional experience or education in software development or engineering is required. This position will not involve regular late-night testing sessions to meet release deadlines or serve as the gatekeeper to quality.

  • Developing: CMake, C++, Qt, Python, JavaScript
  • Testing: Boost, Squish, PyTest, Selenium
  • CI: Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, Bitbucket, Groovy

Required:


  • U.S. citizenship is required due to the nature of work performed
  • Three or more years of professional experience in software testing and automation
  • Experience testing desktop applications
  • Familiarity with object-oriented design and C++ programming paradigms
  • Willingness to undergo background investigation and perform some work at government sites

Desired:


  • Experience with any of the technologies mentioned above
  • B.S. in computer science, physics, math, engineering, or a related discipline

  • Experience working in space, directed energy, imaging, or other science or engineering domains
  • Active U.S. Government Security Clearance
