The Manufacturing Lead will perform hands on production activities while helping coordinate work assignments for the manufacturing team. This position reports directly to the Director of Manufacturing.
Job Responsibilities:
- In collaboration with the Department Director, the Manufacturing Lead will monitor, assist and work to improve all aspects of departmental OH&S and ensure safe operations throughout the department and facility.
- Ensures the use of proper safety devices, equipment (including PPE), and methods. Advises employees on proper reporting method for near miss incidents, incidents, occupational discomfort incidents, and environmental incidents and near misses.
- Assists the Department Director in ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations issued by federal, provincial, and local regulatory agencies, as well as Company Policies and Procedures.
- Ensures that equipment and machines are maintained in safe and good working condition.
- Ensures, with the Department Director, that team members maintain good housekeeping and 6S practices, and keeps work areas neat and organized to reduce the potential for accidents or incidents.
- Works with leadership to eliminate, prevent and put countermeasures in place for all quality related issues.
- Coordinates Quality control activities, initiates and implements Work Standards, specifications and characteristics of the department processes to ensure that quality is built into each of the production processes.
- Identifies improvement actions to reduce and control department spending in-line with Annual Operating Plan targets.
- Ensures that the Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions are current against production practice.
- Performs job duties safely as a Manufacturing Technologist.
- Assists in coordinating daily work assignments and holding stand up meetings to review safety practices, issues.
- Picks and stages orders as directed by Department Director or scheduler.
- Understands the daily manufacturing output objectives.
- Anticipates, communicates and helps resolve problems such as potential delays, materials shortages, equipment repairs, etc.
- Applies industry standard guidelines for data integrity ensuring the maintenance, timely entry, accuracy and consistency of data used in any system which stores, process or retrieves data.
- Ensures that the shop floor is clean and clear of hazards.
- Assists the Department Director in conducting new employee orientation and new employee introductions, coordinate or perform on-the-job-training.
- Acts as a mentor for new and developing employees, including quality checking and training.
- Advises Department Director in a timely manner of any issue that cannot be immediately resolved (including safety, environmental, etc.)
- Encourages good attendance and be an attendance role model by being at work each working day, always being on time, and following all safety and environmental procedures.
- Assists with ensuring industry standard guidelines for data integrity are implemented.
- Responsible for reporting and participating in all OH&S investigations (with OH&S and Department Director guidance).
- Interacts directly with AEM customers, third party contractors, suppliers and co-workers. Close collaboration with other functional departments including Production, Supply Chain, Engineering, etc.

- A minimum post-secondary education is required.
- Several years of experience in a mid to high volume production or manufacturing environment and preferred experience in a production-related managerial role.
- Demonstrated team leadership skills – ability to energize and motivate teams within an organization.
- Demonstrated experience involving customer support issue resolution.
- Proven strong administrative and organizational skills.
- Proven ability to define problems and make sound, fact-based decisions to resolve issues in a timely manner
- Demonstrated ability to maintain positive working relationships and facilitate a teamwork environment
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with proven ability to work well under pressure.
- Working knowledge of ISO Standards and quality related requirements.
- Experience with formal OH&S requirements and behavioral-based safety programs.
- Strong bias for action and self-motivation.
- Willing and able to work overtime on an ongoing basis as the business needs require.
- Willing and able to travel, locally and internationally, on an ongoing basis as the business needs require.
Preferred Experience:
- Lean manufacturing experience is desirable.
Additional Information: · This is an on-site opportunity that must be performed from our office in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. · Must be eligible to work in Canada without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization. F-1 visa holders with Optional Practical Training (OPT) who will require H-1B status, TNs, or current H-1B visa holders will not be considered. H1-B and green card sponsorship is not available for this position.Canadian Compensation Range: A reasonable estimate of the current salary range for this position is $50,000 - $65,000 CAD per year.
