New America seeks applicants who have a strong interest in social media marketing and communications for a paid Fall 2024/Spring 2025 Social Media internship.
This intern will provide support for New America’s social media efforts as a part of the Central Communications department. This is an excellent opportunity for a student or recent graduate interested in the communications or marketing fields.Candidates should demonstrate strong verbal and writing skills and attention to detail in their applications, as well as an interest in public policy issues relevant to New America. The ideal candidate has some experience or interest in social media marketing, public relations, communications, and/or public policy.Start and end dates are flexible.
An early September start date is preferred; the internship can extend as late as June 2025.
Responsibilities
- Work 20-30 hours a week with two in-office days at our downtown D.C. office (or remote)
- Draft copy and source images for social media content
- Assist Senior Social Media Manager with social media campaign execution to promote research on various policy issues
- Create engaging social media content, including graphics and video products
- Monitor social media analytics in collaboration with social media and digital teams to identify viable content ideas
- Stay up-to-date on current events and social trends for content creation, suggest content based on research
- Other administrative duties as assigned including: monitoring press coverage of New America, assisting with events logistics, etc.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Excellent writing, proofreading, and communications skills
- In-depth working knowledge of social media platforms including LinkedIn, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and Facebook
- Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational and time management skills
- Intellectual curiosity, motivation, and a desire to learn on the job
- Experience or demonstrated interest in social media marketing, content creation, public relations
- An understanding of New America’s work and mission, interest in public policy
- Basic knowledge of Canva, InShot, Sprout Social or other social media management and content design tools
- Experience (professional or personal) with content creation, including graphic design and short-form video production
- Experience or demonstrated interest with social media analytics
Location:
This position can be remote or based in the New America office in Washington, DC.
The hourly salary will be $18.
