This is a unique opportunity to join a rapidly growing company with a mission to make clean energy feel easy and rewarding, by growing the movement for clean energy and building clean power plants like solar.Job Description This role will be focused on leading our engagement and advocacy on federal and state legislative and regulatory issues impacting wholesale and retail energy markets, solar development, and energy infrastructure policy.
The ideal candidate has experience working for a large-scale solar developer with expertise in the PJM region. This position reports to the General Counsel and EVP - Corporate Affairs and will have 1-2 direct reports. Responsibilities
- Advocate for policies that support the solar industry broadly and CleanChoice specifically, enabling effective retail markets, solar siting and land use issues, interconnection policies.
- Develop relationships with key state legislators, public utilities commissioners and staff, Governors, and Attorneys General.
- Work independently and as part of a team to develop policy positions, implement policy strategy and identify new business opportunities, including using policy influence to create new retail and solar markets and business models.
- Effectively partner and represent CleanChoice with outside counsel, trade association staff, and lobbyists to leverage subject matter expertise and manage state-specific regulatory issues.
- Analyze policy and regulatory trends that could positively or negatively impact company operations and business development opportunities, provide succinct and actionable reporting to key business leaders.
- Monitor and track federal legislative and regulatory policy issues with a focus on wholesale and retail markets, solar development, energy infrastructure, and tax.
Qualifications and Skills

- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum of 10 years experience in government affairs; preferably with a combination of legislative and regulatory affairs experience.
- Experience in renewable energy development, retail energy, or other restructured markets (e.g. telecommunications) is advantageous.
- Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining relationships with policymakers across a multi-state footprint.
- Must demonstrate excellent business judgment, communication and interpersonal skills, accountability, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively prioritize tasks in a face-paced environment.
- Ideal candidates will have experience working with trade associations, lobbyists, communications firms, or other advocacy organizations.
Work Location / Travel
- CleanChoice Energy is a remote-first work environment and this position is work from home with up to 50% travel. The ideal candidate lives within the PJM region.
