Wight & Company, is currently looking to grow our practice, and we are seeking a
Senior Roadway Engineer in our Chicago location! Are you an energetic and entrepreneurial professional with excellent people skills? Then we would like to talk to you about joining our team! The ideal candidate will work closely with our design team delivering Transportation Projects for a variety of clients such as: IDOT, Tollway, Cook County, CDOT, as well as local/municipal clients. Responsibilities:
- Preparation of studies, construction documents, and calculations as part of roadway and highway design
- Ability to conduct technical peer reviews
- Communicates with clients regarding project issues, ability to lead meetings
- Prepare plans, specifications, reports and cost estimates
- Collaborate with a multi-discipline team to solve challenging transportation issues
- Ability to take on “task lead” role for project to ensure deliverables meet client expectations
- Assist Project Manager with budget related responsibilities and with the development of scope and schedule for project development tasks
- Able to prepare or assist in the preparation of proposals, including cost and fee structure
- Assist in client reporting maintenance tasks that include updating status reports and other written or verbal communications
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team on multiple projects
Qualifications:
- 8-10+ years’ experience in Roadway Engineering
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and Illinois P.E. required
- Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) design and plan preparation experience
- Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification is a plus
- Proficient in IDOT plan development and industry design software including Open Roads Design (ORD)
- Traffic Studies, warrants and design experience is a plus
- Experience managing and designing Phase II (contract plan preparation) projects is a plus
- Experience working on transit, multi-use trails and/or bike lanes projects is a plus
- Business and client development experience and ability to enhance strong client relationships
- Broad transportation and physical planning experience is preferred; inclusive of transit, highway, land use, bicycle and pedestrian, long range and economic planning projects
- Advanced technical writing skills required
