Position Summary:


As a Protection and Control Assistant Technician in the electric utility industry, you will be responsible for assisting in the installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of equipment that protects and controls the flow of electricity in the power grid. The P&C Assistant Technician will be handling sub-tasks assigned by a P&C Lead. The P&C Assistant Tech will have knowledge of such devices and equipment which includes but is not limited to digital relays, electromechanical relays, intelligent electronic devices, Station Disturbance Recorders (SDR), digital fault recorders (DFR), oscillographs and event recorders, RTU's and station SCADA systems, statistical load metering, telemetering and transducers.

Additionally, understand the installation, maintenance and operation of all power line carriers (PLC), tone, pilot wire, fiber and associated P&C communications equipment.

Responsibilities:


· Is safety focused and possesses a minimum of OSHA 10 Certification· Demonstrates a general understanding of zones of protection and current circuits· Understands reduced and inadequate protection· Has performed testing and commissioning on multiple relay models with experience in microprocessor relays, RTUs and Power Line Carrier with minimal oversight from a mentor or lead technician· Possess hands on experience with test equipment· Basic understanding of P&C drawings (incl. schematics, wiring/logic diagrams, cable schedules)· General understanding and application of Human Performance tools· Possess reasonable troubleshooting skills· Understands Lock-Out/Tag-Out policies or procedures· Has performed testing and commissioning of current and voltage circuits with minimal oversight from a mentor or lead technician

Minimum Requirements: 


  • Associate's degree in electrical      engineering or a related field (preferred).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience      as a protection and control technician.
  • OSHA 10 Construction Safety Certification
  • Understanding of protection and      control principles and practices.
  • Experience with relay testing and      commissioning.
  • Excellent leadership and      communication skills.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration      skills.
  • Ability to work independently and      take initiative.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines      and stay organized.
  • Commitment to safety.
