Main Purpose:
The Director of Human Resources is responsible for providing strategic leadership and partners with business leaders to accelerate business goals and build a value-driven culture of excellence. This position provides oversight and supervision of talent acquisition, employee relations, onboarding, compensation/benefits, training, HR systems/processes, and other Human Resource activities. Regularly consults with leadership on culture, workforce programs, and implementation of long-term strategic initiatives to recruit, motivate and retain talent for Gulf Island.
The position reports to the CHRO.
Essential Functions:
- Provides vision, leadership, planning, and project coordination for developing a cost-effective Human Resources department while facilitating efficient operations to meet the organizations’ current and future business needs.
- Collaborates with senior leadership to understand the organization’s goals and strategy related to staffing, recruiting, and retention.
- Plans, leads, develops, coordinates, and implements policies, processes, training, initiatives, and surveys to support the organization’s human resource compliance and strategy needs.
- Oversees the administration of Human Resource programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave management; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
- Identifies staffing and recruiting needs; develops and executes best practices for hiring, retaining, and talent management.
- Conducts research and analysis of organizational and market trends, including reviewing human capital reports and metrics from the organization’s human resource information system (HRIS) or talent management system.
- Monitors and ensures the organization’s compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and recommends best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff within the department.
- Oversees and balances the daily workflow of the department.
- Partners with the Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) team with ongoing employee matters and practices.
- Provides constructive and timely feedback and performance evaluations.
- Handles discipline and termination of employees by company policy.
- Facilitates professional development, training, and certification activities for the Human Resources team.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this knowledge to communicate changes in policies, practices, and resources to leadership.
- Ensures continuity and successful delivery of functional services to all employees throughout the organization.
- Performs other duties as required.

Requirements
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
- Must be able to travel up to 20%

Job Requirements:
- Must be able to pass pre-employment physical and drug screen
- Must be able to pass a background check
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Bi-lingual in Spanish and English is preferred
Desirable Experience and Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.• At least 10 years of human resource management experience in a director role is preferred.• SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP is highly preferred.Gulf Island will not sponsor applications for work visas.
