TAYS is seeking a Database Administrator (DBA) to provide expertise in managing, optimizing, and securing our database systems using the latest technologies and best practices. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 7 years of experience managing, optimizing, and securing databases. You will work with an Agile team of developers, product owners, and stakeholders while ensuring efficient data processing flows, robust backup and recovery procedures, and seamless data migration. You will design, build, deploy, and maintain high-performance database systems.

Additionally, you will work with the team to define, document, and implement database architectures and strategies for integration with internal production systems, ensuring data integrity and security throughout all processes.

This is a permanent, W2 position and will consist of a hybrid schedule. The Full Stack Developer must reside within 2 hours of Woodlawn, MD. 


Key Responsibilities:

  • Database Management: Install, configure, and maintain database systems (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server, PostgreSQL). Ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
  • Performance Tuning: Monitor and optimize the performance of the database systems. Troubleshoot performance issues, identify bottlenecks, and make necessary adjustments.
  • Security and Compliance: Implement and manage database security measures to protect data integrity and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Backup and Recovery: Develop and implement robust backup and recovery procedures. Ensure data is backed up regularly and can be restored quickly in case of data loss.
  • Data Integrity: Ensure the accuracy and consistency of data across the databases. Implement data validation and error-checking procedures.
  • Database Design: Design and implement database schemas, tables, views, indexes, and stored procedures to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Capacity Planning: Plan for future growth and scalability of database systems. Manage database capacity and performance to accommodate the organization’s needs.
  • Automation and Scripting: Develop and maintain scripts to automate routine database maintenance tasks.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with development teams to design and optimize database structures for application performance and scalability. Provide guidance on database best practices.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of database configurations, procedures, and best practices.
  • Support: Provide 24/7 support for critical database systems as needed. Respond to and resolve database-related issues in a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience as a Database Administrator.
  • Strong proficiency in database management systems (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server, PostgreSQL).
  • Proven experience in performance tuning, optimization, and troubleshooting of database systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of database security, backup, and recovery procedures.
  • Experience with database design, schema creation, and query optimization.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash) for automation.
  • Strong understanding of data integrity and data validation techniques.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain and active Public Trust clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Certification in database management (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional, Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator).
  • Experience with cloud-based database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database).
  • Knowledge of big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, NoSQL databases).
  • Experience with database monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, New Relic, Datadog).
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
  • An active Public Trust or higher.
