Position Overview:
We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Technical Designer to join our team on a temporary basis to cover a maternity leave. There is a potential that this role could transition into a permanent role. This role is crucial in the product development process, ensuring our designs come to life with impeccable fit, quality, and functionality. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including design, production, and sourcing, to deliver garments that align with our brand principles.
This is a hybrid position with 2-3 days required on-site in our downtown Detroit offices. All candidates must currently reside in the Detroit Metropolitan area for consideration.
Responsibilities:
Technical Design Process:
- Support the technical design process from concept to final production, ensuring all garments meet quality, fit, and construction standards.
- Provide creative input and technical expertise to enhance the design team's vision and ensure feasibility in manufacturing.
Fit Evaluation and Analysis:
- Conduct thorough fit evaluations on prototypes and production samples, identifying potential fit issues and proposing appropriate solutions.
- Collaborate with designers to achieve the desired fit while adhering to production capabilities and cost parameters.
- Develop and maintain fit and construction standards, creating detailed technical specifications for each garment.
Quality Assurance:
- Establish and enforce quality assurance protocols to maintain consistent product standards across all collections.
- Collaborate with production and sourcing teams to address any quality-related issues promptly and efficiently.
- Implement best practices for quality control and work closely with suppliers to ensure compliance with our quality requirements.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Partner with design and sourcing teams to review design concepts and assess technical feasibility during the initial product development stage.
- Coordinate with production teams to ensure a seamless transition from design to manufacturing, maintaining product integrity throughout the production process.
- Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to explore new technologies and materials that enhance product performance and quality.
Technical Innovation:
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, advancements, and best practices in technical design and apparel manufacturing.
- Continuously seek opportunities for process improvement and innovative solutions to enhance product development efficiency and effectiveness.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Apparel Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience (minimum 2 years) in technical design within the fashion industry.
- In-depth knowledge of garment construction, patternmaking, and fit evaluation.
- Familiarity with 3D prototyping and digital patternmaking software is a plus.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
- Detail-oriented and quality-driven mindset, with an eye for design aesthetics and product integrity.
- Problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions.
- Strong project management skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
