About the team


The Engineering team at BlueLabs supports application access, asset management, and broader operational logistics. We work with a number of internal stakeholders including the Data Science, Insights, Civic Technology, and Ripple teams. Our work supports the underlying infrastructure and data pipelines which allow the rest of the teams to conduct innovative analyses, propose innovative improvements in government operations, and hone messaging for important campaigns. We work in changing, ambiguous environments, so we embrace nuance, inclusivity, and complexity to deliver programs that work for the diverse groups of individuals who rely on us.

You’ll be working with a team of professionals with various work backgrounds and experiences who seek to make Blue Labs a more efficient, compliant, and positive place to work.

About the role:


As the Director of DevSecOps, you will lead our DevSecOps department, setting the strategic direction and ensuring the scalability, reliability, and security of our infrastructure. You will oversee a team of DevSecOps engineers, guiding them in building and maintaining a robust and efficient infrastructure that supports both our internal teams and our clients.

In this position, you will:


  • Strategic Leadership: Define and execute the overall DevOps strategy, aligning it with BlueLabs' business goals and objectives.
  • Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of DevOps engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Infrastructure Design and Implementation: Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of cloud-agnostic infrastructure across multiple cloud providers, ensuring scalability, reliability, security, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Automation and Optimization: Drive automation initiatives to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and reduce manual intervention.
  • Security and Compliance: Ensure adherence to security best practices and industry standards, including compliance with relevant regulations such as FedRAMP, SOC II.
  • Monitoring and Performance: Implement comprehensive monitoring and logging systems to proactively identify and resolve issues, ensuring optimal performance and availability of our infrastructure.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including Engineering, Civic Tech, and Client Solutions, to understand their needs and ensure the infrastructure supports their goals.

What we are seeking:


  • Proven Leadership: 8+ years of experience in DevOps, with at least 5 years in a leadership or management role.
  • Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP), Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), containerization (Kubernetes ), and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop and execute a long-term vision for the DevOps department, aligning it with the overall business strategy.
  • Strong Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex issues in a timely manner.
  • Familiarity with our toolset: Including ArgoCD for deployment purposes, a deep understanding of Kubernetes and Terraform.
  • Willingness to get your hands dirty: We are firm believers that sometimes the best way to teach is to lead by example. When things go bump in the night the willingness to get involved yourself and help out with the rest of the team.
  • A passion for lifelong learning: We fully believe that all our engineers should be continually growing and staying abreast of best practices, toolsets, and techniques.

The ability to successfully attain and maintain a Federal Public Trust background investigation that our government clients require; this includes a requirement that the individual has U.S. Citizenship or U.S. residency for three of the past five years.
