Synthego is enabling genome engineering at scale with a blend of scientific instrumentation, industrial automation, and data science. Our team of scientists and engineers are putting multidisciplinary fields together to solve problems that no one field can tackle alone.
We seek an innovative, experienced scientist to join the technical operations team. As a production scientist, you will support the transfer of new processes into production, troubleshoot issues in the lab, and mentor research associates. The role will focus on understanding the production of sgRNA to transfer new processes, derisk novel customer requests through feasibility studies, and advanced documentation skills to establish audit read protocols and reports. The ideal candidate is well-versed in oligonucleotide synthesis and purification techniques, analytical and production instrumentation, and experienced in GLP/GMP documentation (NCRs, CAPAs, CHGs, protocol, and report writing).
What You'll Do:
- Develop and optimize production processes to meet customer requirements and quality standards, documenting these processes in Synthego’s system to ensure consistency and repeatability.
- Take ownership of manufacturing process troubleshooting, establishing a response cascade to address and resolve issues efficiently.
- Champion Operations Excellence & Continuous Improvement (Kaizen) efforts to tackle process inefficiencies and cost reduction challenges, with progress tracked on an existing continuous improvement board.
- Acquire and apply knowledge of end-to-end oligonucleotide synthesis and purification in ISO clean rooms to produce preclinical and clinical-grade sgRNA orders.
- Operate complex scientific instrumentation for oligonucleotide synthesis and purification, effectively interpreting LC/MS data.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including science, engineering, marketing, R&D, quality assurance, quality control, and supply chain—to develop and implement innovative solutions that exceed customer expectations and align production goals with company objectives.
- Lead the development and training of research associates, production specialists, and associate scientists to build a skilled and knowledgeable team.
About You:
- PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Biotechnology with at least 1 year of experience, or MS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Biotechnology with 4 years experience in clinical or pre-clinical manufacturing operations or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of operational processes, quality management systems, and regulatory compliance (e.g., ISO, cGMP), with experience authoring NCRs, CAPAs, CHGs, Qualification protocols (IQ, OQ, PQ, PPQ), and Validation reports.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a proven track record of efficiently taking ownership of troubleshooting and resolving manufacturing process issues.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with teams in commercial, R&D, quality assurance, quality control, and supply chain to develop and implement innovative solutions.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with experience managing and mentoring teams.
Nice to Have:
- Previous experience with oligonucleotide (or) protein production
- Proficiency in analytical techniques, deep knowledge of unit operations, experience with complex scientific instrumentation, and the ability to interpret LC/MS data effectively.
