LOCATION & TERMS
This hybrid position is located in Bellevue, Washington (or remote in select states).
This is a 1099 contract role for candidates set up as independent contractors
Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without visa sponsorship.
WHO YOU ARE
You are an experienced Technical Writer of software documentation, looking to join a product team who work collaboratively with product managers, developers, quality assurance (QA) engineers, and technical support representatives to make our software products easier to use.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
As Seagull Scientific builds on its more than 35 years of increasing success in delivering world-class, high quality barcode and labeling software across the globe, you will work with various teams to create and maintain several types of user documentation, including software help materials, technical documents, how-to guides, user manuals, and instructional procedures. Responsibilities:
Create clear, concise, and accurate technical documentation that is consistent and completely covers all the features that a user needs to understand to use the software.
Write, edit, review, and organize various types of user documentation, including software help materials, technical documents, how-to guides, user manuals, and instructional procedures, for technical and non-technical audiences.
Develop and maintain documentation standards and style guides; defer to Microsoft Writing Style Guide standards wherever possible.
Edit other technical content, such as API references (including code samples), UI text, and error messages, with priority given to global English standards.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineers, program managers, and designers to gather technical information and ensure accurate documentation.
Research and gather information about difficult technical concepts and explain them in an effective manner.
Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in technical writing.
Create and update team knowledge base articles and stylesheets.
Update translated help system databases for BarTender Designer for each release.
WHAT WE REQUIRE
3+ years technical writing experience
Familiarity with the Microsoft Manual of Style (MSTP)
Proven working experience in technical writing of software documentation
Ability to effectively communicate difficult technical concepts
Ability to deliver high quality documentation, paying attention to detail
Experience working with help authoring tools, such as MadCap Flare, and content management systems, such as Perforce
Excellent communication and writing skills
Strong problem-solving skills
Knowledge of HTML, XML, and CSS
EDUCATION
Degree or certification in a relevant technical or communications field or equivalent experience
COMPENSATION
Compensation for this contract role starts between $35.00 – $50.00 per hour.
The specific pay offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, or location.
