Opportunity
Deepgram is looking for an Engineering Manager to help drive our integration, automation, and support processes. Deepgram is the leader in developer-friendly building blocks for language AI. As such, this role directly impacts the customer’s first impressions of Deepgram’s products and uniquely influences the customer’s buying decisions. In this role, you will lead a team of engineers who help identify and solve fundamental customer issues, as well as drive customer engagement and communication, by building AI automation.
By partnering closely with Engineering, Product, Sales, Customer Success, and Marketing, you will execute on the next-generation vision for our platform.
What You’ll Do
Lead a team of multi-disciplined applied engineers to provide engineering support for the full customer life-cycle (pre-sales, onboarding, and post-sales)
Create and improve business processes to collect customer feedback, triage and escalate customer issues, and prioritize automation
Work closely with the rest of the leadership and product management team on product strategy and roadmap refinement with customer-obsessed thinking
Oversee technical design, task decomposition, and daily standups to ensure the team is executing on schedule
Engage hands-on with technical solutions for quality control, reproducing issues, and data analysis, including reviewing and authoring code
Lead the creation of features and product releases by being closely involved with the product development, design, and review
Work with other team leads from across the organization on cross-functional projects, help identify the critical paths, and resolve dependencies
Hold regular 1-on-1s with direct reports, help them navigate challenges, and coach them for their career development

Have experience working in early stage startups—from building and scaling to going through fundraising
Great communication and leadership skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Have a passion working directly with customers and leading customer-facing engineering teams
Interest in relevant technologies (Rust, Python, GPUs, Elm, Postgres etc.) and willingness to challenge common assumptions about the future trajectories of technology

Proven experience managing and leading and growing a team with a consistent record of mentoring and coaching team members
A strong technical background building world class solutions
A charismatic and empathetic approach to customer service, communicating directly with customers and ensuring strong product engagement
The ability to drive technical decisions in a scalable and thoughtful manner
Passion about good engineering practices, emerging technologies, and improving processes
A passion for navigating the team through the real-world constraints of a startup: how to build quickly, iterate frequently, and run experiments
Strong practical experience with software architecture and implementation, plus the ability to engage with an Engineering team to help build and scale the existing infrastructure

Familiarity with hybrid cloud models (bare-metal datacenters and cloud service providers) and scaled databases
