THE OPPORTUNITY: Senior Technical Designer

Headquartered in Los Angeles, CA with an office in New York, NY, Birdy Grey supports remote work for eligible roles. This role is hybrid, 3-4 days in office. This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.Birdy Grey is looking for a Senior Technical Designer to join our Product Development team. This role will require working in our DTLA studio.The Senior Technical Designer will demonstrate expertise and knowledge in plus-size fitting, apparel Production concepts, practices, and procedures. The ideal candidate will have proven success in an Apparel/Garment construction and Manufacturing environment with a specific focus on special occasion dresses.
The Senior Technical Designer is responsible for a cross-functional position that interacts with both the creative and executive parts of the business. This role collaborates with the Technical Designers, Product Development team, and Production team, and reports to the Director of technical design.
- Possess a comprehensive understanding offit in patterns, construction techniques, sample evaluation, material assessment, workmanship, functionality, and production feasibility
- Strive to enhance fit and quality by analyzing customer feedback, sales input, and staying informed about market competition
- Lead and monitor the fit process, ensuring the desired fit is achieved, while maintaining close collaboration with the Design and product Development teams
- Ability to successfully manage and communicate with overseas vendors, displaying strong communication skills to proactively resolve issues
- Solid fitting experience with body forms and understanding of the importance of standard fit for consistent fit quality
- Proficient in understanding the relationship between body form fitting and fit model fitting, with the ability to accurately calibrate visual assessments
- Establish appropriate initial garment specifications in a proto tech pack, while also organizing and leading fittings with garment measurements and proactive review of potential fit issues in advance
- Actively contributes as a team player, working closely with other team members to effectively manage the overall workload related to construction, fit, approvals, comments, timelines, and other relevant tasks
- Accountable for efficient deadline management and effective communication of any encountered issues

QUALIFICATIONS & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
EDUCATION:
College degree required
EXPERIENCE / REQUIREMENTS:
- 10+ industry experience with-in Technical Design or Pattern Making
- Experience with regular and plus-size dresses, eveningwear, or special occasion
- Proficiency in PC operation, Google Suites, MS office and Excel, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator software
- Experience using a product development technical specification program (PDM, PLM, WFX etc).
- Understanding of Technical Design process and product construction
- Excellent interpersonal skills supporting a team environment
- Must be willing to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong planning and organizational skills with a sense of priority for deadlines and attention to detail
- Ability to recognize and react to changing work demands
- Ability to demonstrate proactive problems solving skills
- Ability to physically work with garments and samples
