BDG is seeking a highly experienced Vice President of Engineering to join our Product & Engineering Leadership Team. Reporting directly to our Chief Technology Officer, this individual will play a pivotal role in driving the technical vision, strategy, and execution to empower our platforms’ growth and innovation.
BDG Media is the company behind  Bustle, Nylon, W, Elite Daily, Inverse, Mic, Romper, The Zoe Report, and more. We’re a hybrid company headquartered in New York City with a technology driven strategy. We have an engineering A-Team who pridefully crafts and takes ownership of the software we develop. This includes:

Content Management System:

A multi-tenant CMS that runs all of our websites and is the foundation of how we scale our entirely human, full-time and US based editorial staff. 

Enterprise Resource Planning System:

Our internal systems are as impressive as our external ones. To survive in Media and scale nine-figures in revenue without waste you have to innovate.  

Design & Product Development:

We know our business, we’ve dialed in our devops and platform, and we have the audience. We’re focused on shipping quality strategy backed product & software. 

Data & Business Intelligence:

Think petabyte scale. We’ve got cutting edge data pipeline infrastructure and easy to learn conventions for using it. 

Who You Are


You will lead a dynamic team of engineers, overseeing the development of scalable, reliable, and high-performance solutions that redefine the media landscape. This role requires a strategic thinker with a deep technical expertise, a passion for driving excellence, and a relentless focus on delivering exceptional experiences for our clients and readers. As the ideal candidate, you possess a forward-thinking mindset coupled with a hands-on approach, demonstrating strong ownership and a commitment to delivering impactful results.

Responsibilities


  • Collaborate with executive leadership to define the company's technical roadmap, aligning engineering initiatives with business objectives and market trends.
  • Lead and inspire a diverse, high-performing engineering team to deliver world-class products and solutions, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning. 
  • Ensure optimal resource assignments on a daily and weekly basis to maximize the productivity and output of the engineering team.
  • Define and communicate a clear technical vision, driving architectural decisions and ensuring alignment with BDG’s long-term goals.
  • Work closely with product management, design, and other stakeholders to prioritize features, resolve technical challenges, and drive product innovation.
  • Champion agile methodologies and best practices, fostering a culture of agility, adaptability, and continuous improvement.
  • Set clear goals and KPIs for the engineering team, tracking performance and providing regular feedback to drive accountability and growth.

Qualifications


  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with a proven track record of leading and scaling engineering teams in high-growth environments.
  • Strong technical acumen and proven expertise in engineering principles, methodologies, and best practices, essential for guiding and collaborating with cross-functional teams towards innovative technical solutions
  • Exceptional leadership and people management skills, with a demonstrated ability to inspire, mentor, and develop engineering teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Passion for technology and innovation, with a curiosity to explore emerging trends and technologies in the media technology space and the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
  • Strong strategic and analytical skills, with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions and drive innovation.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, trust, and transparency.
  • Strong focus on results and delivery, with a commitment to excellence and a drive to exceed client expectations.

$210,000 - $215,000 a yearThe base salary range for this role is $215,000 to $250,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each specific candidate; including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, applicable certifications, and geographic work location.
