Job Description


We’re looking for a DevOps engineer who will be a key member of the growing Infrastructure Team at BeZero Carbon. Initially, you will be required to adopt unmanaged infrastructure and continue the migration of our existing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) stacks from CloudFormation to Terraform.However, this is just the very first phase of a vision to make the management of BeZero’s infrastructure lean, cost efficient, and as secure as possible. The work we do allows many different teams work efficiently so they can deliver quality products (both internal and external) that ensure we continue to be The Carbon Ratings Agency.

Not only will you be maintaining existing infrastructure, but you will also be continuously striving to find better ways to achieve this goal. The current tech stack consists of Serverless functions, S3 storage, request/response services, relational databases, AI/ML tools like SageMaker, and many more. This role liaises with multiple teams (internal tooling, data science, geo science, product engineering) each of which have different requirements, because of this, the role demands the ability to switch focus whilst maintaining quality. Future work will include but is not limited to:


  • global observability, think metrics, dashboards, and reports


  • an approach to unified logging, alerting, and notifications

  • creating a platform upon which to deliver new features effortlessly

Responsibilities



  • Create and maintain a highly available, flexible, and collaborative platform upon which building and deploying solutions is effortless.

  • Build solutions that adhere to the best industry practices for deploying secure infrastructure.

  • Ensure that all delivered solutions are highly available yet cost effective; communicating how the balance of these two requirements have been met is crucial.

  • Create solutions that help teams with non-functional requirements (NFRs) and their implementation across the estate, e.g. observability, auditing and security.

  • Understand the technical details of how our infrastructure is wired together to make it easy to triage, assist with and fix issues.

  • Keep an eye on new technologies or methodologies to ensure we are working as efficiently as possible.

  • Be a skilled communicator who can comfortably work at different levels of the organisation, adapting your communication style to the target audience.

  • Collaborate with development and operations teams to ensure seamless integration and delivery of applications.

  • Continuously improve infrastructure and processes to enhance delivery speed and product flexibility.

You’ll be our ideal candidate if:



  • 3-5+ years of experience as a DevOps Engineer or similar role.

  • Proven experience with AWS; experience with GCP and Azure is a plus.
  • Solid understanding of

  • event-driven architecture

  • observability tooling

  • IAM patterns

  • cloud networking

  • Proficiency in Terraform for managing cloud infrastructure.

  • Experience with other infrastructure automation tools such as CloudFormation, Ansible, or Chef would be considered.

  • Strong understanding of CI/CD concepts and tools.Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.

  • Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Expert familiarity with code versioning tools like Git.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

  • Demonstrates ability to adopt and improve practices that encourage and maintain good code health
