Full-time 35 hours/week (40 hours/week minus 5 hours /week for meal breaks)
POSITION OVERVIEW:
To protect the students, staff, faculty, visitors, and property of SVA.
Summary: Security supervisors are responsible for managing a team of security personnel, and providing for a safe and secure school environment, fostering an optimal learning environment and acting as a deterrent to unsafe or poor behavior by patrolling the residence halls, educational facilities, enforcing SVA policies, procedures, monitoring security cameras, monitoring visitors, reporting unsafe or unhealthy conditions and assisting staff, students and visitors with emergency or investigative situations.
Supervisor’s Job Description:
- Supervises assigned subordinate officers; relegates, coordinates, and prepares officers with respect to their daily assignments; screens and assesses job performance of subordinate officers.
- Supervises the Campus digital access systems and surveillance systems, which consist of over 600 cameras and multiple buildings on campus utilizing Milestone video surveillance.
- Supervises the public safety operations program for over 6,000 students and 250 faculty members.
- Train officers and shift commanders, concerning all policies and procedures of the security department.
- Perform valuable leadership functions in circumstances requiring good judgment and diplomacy.
- Receives and investigates complaints in relation to security personnel or actions and incidents concerning the campus community.
- Perform site inspections at security officers and shift commanders at all SVA properties.
- Perform surveillance investigation with the usage of: (Milestone XProtect system and IP base systems)
- Monitors ongoing campus security issues; reacts to requests for help; provides initial response as required including first aid; facilitates and oversees preliminary investigations; directs scene activities and coordinates communication with upper level management.
- Coordinates and supervises security at large campus events; such as open house, gallery, theater, and etc.
- Monitors and approves officers’ vacation and personal time records; make sure sufficient coverage/replacements for vacationing and sick employees, which includes the drafting of weekly schedules.
- Prepare daily activity reports, weekly overtime reports and other specialized reports requested by upper level management.
- Review and make sure all payroll information (Payroll System) is accurate for officers for overall 35 hours.
- Implement and maintain procedures to control overtime costs.
- Draft and administer annual performance evaluation appraisals to assign officer or shift commanders, which includes counseling notices.
- Able to work weekends and holidays
- Able to work day shifts and night shifts
Essential Job Functions:
- Walk and stand for extended periods while on duty
- Ability to patrol building, covering long distance rapidly in case of emergency
- Climb stairs, conduct foot patrols, and able to lift up to 50lbs
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or an equivalent education
- NYS Security Guard License
- 2+ years of security-related experience
- 1+ years of customer service experience
- Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
