Overview:The Underwriter will be responsible for ensuring profitable growth of book of business by appropriately evaluating the acceptability of risks. Responsibilities:
- Using judgment and rating criteria, recommends or determines insurance eligibility, coverage terms, and premiums
- Maintains renewals and attracts new business in accordance with underwriting guidelines and corporate goals
- Understands and appropriately reacts to small accounts and basic coverage issues
- Develops and nurtures broker and member relationships
- In conjunction with manager, limited travel to brokers and members
- Requires basic commercial casualty underwriting training and more significant supervisory oversight due to limited underwriting experience
- Document underwriting thought process and decisions
- Monitor, organize, and maintain assigned group program files and submissions in accordance with program specific guidelines
- Participates in special projects and other duties as required
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree
- 1+ years of commercial casualty insurance experience
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical, verbal and written communication skills
- Substantial software application skills (Word Suite, Salesforce, and ImageRight) with adaptability to learning new technology platforms
- Ability to multitask and negotiate diplomatically
- Travel periodically to brokers and members
- Ability to adapt to changing insurance market conditions and demands
- This position may require in-office training during the first few weeks
