Sol Systems seeks a GIS Intern to support our utility-scale solar development business. The intern will assist the site origination team in analyzing and selecting project sites as well as analyzing the viability of potential acquisitions. This individual will use their Geospatial knowledge and skills to screen land to conduct buildability analysis using various mapping layers such as parcel data, flood information, wetland delineations and historical environmental reports. The selected candidate will develop a GIS tool to automate their tasks as much as possible. The selected candidate will ideally be able to work throughout the fall semester, for an average of 20-40 hours per week, with flexibility during the school semester given class schedule and course load.

Key responsibilities:
- Assisting in the development of custom tools and applications to streamline site assessment and leverage GIS capabilities across the organization
- Generating clear and appealing maps and layouts for presentations to internal and external stakeholders
- Publishing and Maintaining Web Maps and Web Applications on ArcGIS Online Portal
- Creating, editing, and reprojecting shape files, exporting, and loading shape files, and estimating acreage totals, locations, and distances between objects and other calculations and analysis tools
- Running table/spatial queries and data analysis tools
- Mapping legal descriptions of lease documents into shapefiles and KMZs
A successful candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
- Undergraduate or Graduate student studying GIS, Geography, Environmental Data Science, Environmental Engineering or related major
- Working knowledge of ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online products and tools. 2 years of completed GIS coursework is preferred.
- Knowledge of Python programming and a working understanding of code development in a GIS platform
- Previous GIS internship experience is a plus
- Experience with machine learning is a plus
Location & Hours:
This is a fall internship with an average of 20-40 hours a week and will be based in our Washington, DC office.
