About the Role:


At Pylon, we’re a small team building a very ambitious product in the mortgage space. We believe exceptional design is competitive advantage. We expect our designs will be referenced by designers at other companies because they are that good.As a Product Designer at Pylon, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping our product. You’ll join a small, high-performing team where your creativity and attention to detail will directly impact the development of our platform. We're in search of people who find difficult problems invigorating and who fit well into a high-performing team built on mutual respect and reliance.

You:


  • Are customer first. You consistently think through the lens of our customers using first principles.

  • Have a track record of design excellence. You have a portfolio of Grade A product designs delivered within a fast-paced environment and strong aesthetics.

  • Are a meticulous craftsman. Doing things impressively well is in Pylon’s DNA. We creatively obsess over our work to deliver the best products in mortgage and win the market.

  • Don't settle. Challenge yourself to frequently and consistently deliver exceptional code and documentation. If something could be better, take the initiative to improve it.

  • Are self-motivated. You can take a goal and drive towards it without needing extensive hand-holding. The team is supportive and loves to share knowledge and advice, but there’s no time for micromanaging your work.

  • Have great ideas, and lots of them. You should see opportunities all around you to make the code, product and infrastructure better. We’ll give you an environment where you can act on those ideas.

  • Are comfortable with ambiguity. There's a million ways to do things; you should feel at ease making a decision under uncertainty while balancing competing constraints.

  • Have strong opinions that you’re willing to defend. We have a culture of vigorous discussion and debate on important design decisions. We’ll push you to defend your choices, and we want you to push back.

  • Are confident you can learn quickly. Mortgage is complex, our platform is multi-product, good design is hard. You’ve got to have an attitude that you can absorb it, get on top of it, and build something better than what came before.

Role Responsibilities



  • Own day to day product design: You’ll help define our product design vision while welcoming feedback from the team. You're expected to be a solo designer early on with active feedback from the team.

  • Develop a customer-extensible design system: This is a unique opportunity to use new technologies to develop very flexible design components used by customers to build mortgage.

  • Partner closely with engineering and leadership: You’ll iterate on product designs with our technical teams and work closely with them to understand all the technical functionality and constraints of the application.

  • Visually breakdown complex systems and processes: What we're building has many moving parts. You will be a principled thinker helping to break down concepts through great design for team members, customers, and partners alike as part of our product building process.

  • Contribute to product marketing: As a generalist and early team member, you'll be involved in leveling up our brand and marketing which tightly coupled with our product design.Internally enforce and educate: You’ll uphold our quality bar and pix-perfect engineering. You will stay on top of the latest design trends and share learnings with the team.

Technical Requirements



  • 5+ years of experience in product design and user experience

  • Ability to express ideas through visuals and prototyping (Pylon uses Figma)

  • Experience with building design systems, programming, and using technical tools like Git, VSCode, and Storybook

  • Excellent visual, UI, and interaction skills

  • Interest in fintech and AI

  • Bonus points if you have experience in productized UI elements or API-first products
