About the Role:


At Pylon, we’re a small team building a very ambitious platform in the mortgage space. As a Chief of Staff to our CEO, Trent Hedge, you’ll play a pivotal role in scaling Pylon. This is a unique role suited for a .1% performer.

You:


  • Exceptionally sharp and tough. This role is not for the faint of heart. You will be pushed to deliver outsized results as a trusted thought partner to our CEO.

  • Have a track record of organizational excellence. Those who have worked with you know you to always be on top of your work and you see multiple steps ahead. You take pride in how organized you are.

  • Are a meticulous craftsman. Doing things impressively well is in Pylon’s DNA. We obsess over our work to deliver the best products in mortgage.

  • Are customer first. You think through the lens of our customers using first principles and enjoy spending time in the go-to-market trenches.

  • Great writer. You will frequently communicate internally and externally (customers, partners, investors, press, etc) and contribute to company documentation. We expect you to have evidence of thorough, concise writing.

  • Have a moderated ego. You are not above the thankless, but necessary work to be keep the company performing at its best. You'll never be asked to do something that our founder and CEO would not be willing to do himself.

  • Are self-motivated and high horsepower. You can take a goal and drive towards it without needing extensive hand-holding. The team is supportive and loves to share knowledge, but there’s no time for micromanaging your work. You're always sprinting.

  • Have great ideas, and lots of them. You should see opportunities all around you to make product, sales, people, and the overall company better. We’ll give you an environment where you can act on those ideas.

  • Are comfortable with ambiguity. There are a million ways to do things; you should feel at ease making a decision under uncertainty while balancing competing constraints.

  • Have strong opinions that you’re willing to defend. We have a culture of discussion and debate on important decisions. We’ll push you to defend your choices, and we want you to push back.

  • Are confident you can learn quickly. Mortgage is complex, we are regulated, and our platform is multi-product. You’ve got to have an attitude that you can absorb it, get on top of it, and build something better than what came before.

Role Responsibilities



  • Run special projects: You'll be assigned to some of our most complex and time sensitive projects across the business. If they require an ongoing person to lead them, you'll build the V1 playbook and hire them.

  • Assist with recruiting and onboarding: We don't have an HR and recruiting function - that will be you. Scaling talent acquisition while maintaining a high bar is critical. The team we build is the company we build.

  • Help drive and measure company performance: You'll work with our CEO to help to define and track initiatives across the company to ensure we are focused and performing at our best. This requires just enough process, good systems, and excellent people.

  • Keep us organized: ensure the trains are running on time and provide leverage to our CEO. You'll ensure we are prompt and consistent in our internal and external communication is critical.

  • Manage the office: we don't have an office manager nor assistants. You will make sure everyone on the team has what they need (laptops, food in the fridge, etc) to do their best work.

Requirements



  • 3-5+ years of experience (CoS, biz ops, investment banking, or management consulting)

  • Financial modeling and SQL for purpose of analysis and building internal tools/dashboards

  • Interest in fintech

  • Bonus points if you've worked at a startup
