Position Summary
An Effectual Cloud Operations Lead is a member of the Cloud Operations/Modern Cloud Management (MCM) team that specializes in providing 24/7/365 AWS support to customers. You are instrumental in managing Cloud Support Technicians, optimizing performance, and ensuring the reliability of customer AWS cloud environments. An Effectual Cloud Operations Lead is a "Brand Ambassador" and will stay current on leading practices to deliver high-quality, well-architected solutions to customers and ensure customer satisfaction.
The Cloud Operations Lead will collaborate with cross functional teams and report to the Director of Cloud Operations.
A Glimpse into the Daily Routine of a Cloud Operations Lead
The Cloud Operations team works 24/7/365 monitoring and responding to incidents and customer requests and following change management. In this customer forward team, there is a need for constant communication and knowledge sharing. Help identify and implement customer, process, and documentation limitations is key to continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of Cloud Operations technicians and engineers:
- Perform regular scheduled 1:1's
- Respond to requests/inquiries from team members
- Communicate working preferences and understand the working preferences of others to help develop a high-performing team that operates with respect and efficiency
- Provide operational support to customers' technical IT engineers - this is not an end-user support position
- Troubleshoot and deploy cloud networking infrastructure, including:
- Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) resources such as subnets, network access control lists, and security groups
- AWS Transit Gateways, VPC peering and other networking interconnect technologies and protocols (e.g., VPNs, BGP)
- Deploy, test, diagram, and document development, pre-production, and production environments at the network layer
- Compose and use automation and IaC to ensure repeatable, sustainable AWS infrastructure deployments
- Assist with requests from customers' technical IT engineering staff and alerts, being an escalation point for less experienced engineers
- Identify opportunities for improvement in both customer environments and internal processes
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in network-focused roles
- 2+ years of experience operating production environments in AWS Cloud with a focus on networking
- 1+ years of experience managing an operational team
- Exposure to, and use of, scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, Bash, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to perform basic Windows and Linux administration
- Exceptional communication and time management skills
Nice-to-Have Skills and Experience
- AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Networking Specialty, Developer Associate, Sysops Administrator Associate, Solution Architect Associate)
- Networking certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, PCCSE, PCNSE)
- Familiarity with infrastructure as code (IaC) tooling such as Terraform or CloudFormation
- Understanding of AWS CLIs and/or APIs
- Experience using ServiceNow
- Familiarity with ITIL processes
