About the Role
As a Data Engineer at Wheel, you will work with data to solve business problems, building and maintaining the infrastructure to answer questions and improve processes. You will also streamline Wheel’s Horizon data science workflows, adding value to our product offerings and building out the customer lifecycle and retention models. Another facet of the role is to collaborate with the Engineering and business intelligence teams to develop data models and pipelines for research, reporting, and machine learning.
Lastly, you will advocate and mentor for best practices and continued learning regarding data engineering and science.
What You’ll Do
Collaborate across the Engineering and Operations teams to help build complex algorithms that provide unique insights into our data.
Make iterative improvements to our back-end systems.
Model front/back-end data sources to help draw a more comprehensive picture of user flows throughout the system to enable enhanced data analysis.
Build data pipelines that clean, transform, and aggregate data from disparate sources.
Develop models that can be used to make predictions and answer questions for the business
Who You Area
5+ overall years as a data engineer and 3+ years of experience with Python, SQL, and data visualization/exploration tools required.
Familiarity with the AWS ecosystem, specifically Redshift, RDS, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Aurora, Timestream/InfluxDB, Healthlake, Trino, Quicksight, etc.
Excellent communication skills, especially for explaining technical concepts to nontechnical business leaders, i.e. read your audience and speak their languages.
Ability to work on a dynamic, research-oriented team that has concurrent projects in a startup environment.
Additional Core Competencies:
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline required, with a Masters preferred.
Experience in building or maintaining ETL processes.
Professional certification(s) a nice to have.
