Summary
As an important member of the Pixelligent team, the Process Engineer II is responsible for helping to drive development and growth through new product and process design, technology scaling, equipment selection, and process and product optimization in support of the company’s cost, quality, and delivery goals. This hands-on position will also deal with problems arising in the manufacturing process involving chemical reactions, processes, equipment, and machinery. The tools that will likely be employed are Process Hazards Assessment, Design of Experiments, Statistical Process Control, and Lean Manufacturing.
Primary Responsibilities
- Utilize chemical engineering knowledge and experience to guide others regarding best practices in chemical manufacturing operations.
- Identification, selection, design, and qualification of new equipment, materials, and processes supporting process scaling and new product introduction.
- Transfer of chemical production from R&D to the pilot plant and from the pilot plant to the contract manufacturer.
- Proactively identify process quality, cost, and safety improvement opportunities and execute plans for continuous improvement.
- Responsible for maintenance plans, equipment modifications, contractor management, etc.
- Establish and or improve process controls in the factory.
- Address manufacturing quality excursions using formal root cause investigation methodologies.
- Author material and process specifications and provide training as necessary for affected individuals.
- Support Change Management using the Quality Management System.
- Candidate must be willing to take on responsibilities in developing, planning, and coordinating environmental, health, and safety activities to ensure employee engagement and regulatory compliance
Requirements
Required Education & Experience
- Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree is required in Chemical Engineering or related field.
- 2+ years of direct experience with batch or continuous chemical production process support.
Required Skills & Abilities
- Previous experience in engineering processes with hazardous materials.
- Previous experience with Process Safety Management
- Proven skills in process improvement and project management.
- Basic Knowledge of Federal and State regulations required. Experience interpreting OSHA, EPA, IBC, and NFPA codes and regulations preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and drafting software. Experience with chemical modeling software such as CHEMCAD or ASPEN is a plus
- Strong organizational, people, and communication skills.
- Strong writing and oral communication skills.
Desired Skills & Abilities
- Experience in explosion-proof environments.
- Experience with high temperature/pressure reactions.
- Experience with interpreting 40CFR RCRA and TSCA and 29CFR.1910.
- Direct design and installation experience of common chemical manufacturing unit operations: reaction, distillation, drying, centrifugation, or filtration.
- Capital improvement and manufacturing cost estimation experience
- Experience with Six Sigma/Lean
