Intersport is seeking to add a smart and driven Trainee, Accountant to its Detroit-based Accounting team. The Detroit Accounting team is integral to providing company-wide day-to-day financial operations in support of Intersport’s Golf division. The Trainee should have a four-year college degree in accounting, and ideally some level of experience/internships in accounting. Should have strong organizational skills, be able to learn new computer systems, and have a high level of attention to detail.
They should also have an interest in sports, understanding in project accounting. The Trainee will assist the Director, Business Operations, and extended team, with basic accounting responsibilities. The Trainee program is the means for entry-level hiring for Intersport. A Trainee position is full-time, with salary and benefits, and covers a period of six months. At the conclusion of the six-month period, a Trainee is hired on to a permanent position based on a number of factors: a Trainee’s personal performance, Intersport company performance, and macroeconomic conditions. A Trainee position is by definition a training position – one in which they will be taught while doing real work. A Trainee must make a discernable impact and prove themselves; it is not in any way an internship position. The Trainee program is competitive by design and its purpose is hire the very best entry-level talent and grow that talent into a permanent team member. Upon successful completion of the Trainee program, a team member kept on permanently will be elevated to the title of Associate Manager, Tournament Services.
Responsibilities
General
- Embody and reflect Intersport’s performance-based culture and commits him/herself and team to the highest standards for all work responsibilities
- Work effectively with cross-functional teams to deliver executional excellence
Accounting
- Assist with range of functions across AP, AR and GL
- Prepare deposits, assist with journal entries and year end workpapers
- Assisting with budgeting, cash flow management, tax returns, and financial analysis and forecasting.
- Maintain an accurate and detailed record of all transactions
- Assist with monthly bank reconciliations
- Work with extended team on a wide variety of vendor payments
- Assist in the Audit & Review of transactions related to all balance sheet accounts
- Help interpret financial information and report variance
- Demonstrate the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, troubleshoot and draw valid conclusions
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Four-year-degree in Accounting/Business or related field preferred
- Previous exposure to/internship(s) in an accounting role
- Proficient in MS Office, particularly Excel
- Attention to detail while maintaining ability to multitask
- Strong organization skills, problem resolution, critical thinking and communication skills
- Independent self-started, but also a team player
- Proactive and anticipatory approach to effectively managing a breadth of responsibilities
- Communicates effectively, in both written and verbal form
- Advanced computer skills, with an aptitude to learn new systems & procedures
