Pomelo’s mission is to increase financial access and empowerment for immigrants and their loved ones back home. 
We are proud to be the first financial technology platform to combine consumer credit and global remittances. Our product solves the worst aspects of money transfer by empowering our customers to use credit rather than cash. At the same time, we help immigrants establish their financial future in their new country by building positive credit history with their existing remittance obligations and financially include their loved ones in emerging economies with access to modern financial instruments.We’re a team of ~45 and are growing our San Francisco headquarters.

About the Team


As a Staff Engineer, you'll be a technical leader, taking on and solving a variety of engineering challenges. In this role, you’ll not only bring your architectural and coding expertise but also serve as a mentor to your fellow team members. Our engineering team works on a broad range of products including money, transactions, fraud, and risk. We’re looking for someone with a deep understanding of engineering, who’s passionate about both quality (craft, reliability, etc.) and speed (business impact, rapid iteration, pragmatism, etc.).

The ideal candidate will excel at both high-level strategy and detailed execution, while also helping to elevate the entire engineering organization.

Your Role


  • Set the standard for technical excellence across the company.
  • Design and implement innovative technical solutions for a variety of engineering projects.
  • Help shape our technical vision and drive the implementation of complex initiatives.
  • Continuously improve our engineering processes, tools, and systems to scale our codebase, boost productivity, and support team growth.
  • Foster effective collaboration between engineering teams, product, and cross-functional colleagues.
  • Align business needs with short and long-term technical goals.

What We're Looking For


  • Typically 6+ years of experience in engineering, working with complex codebases.
  • Strong programming skills in at least one language (Java, Rust, TypeScript, React, or similar). 
  • A demonstrated ability and enthusiasm for thriving in a fast-paced setting, continuously growing, and mastering your craft.
  •  A proven track record of delivering high-quality products.
  • The ability to translate business and product ideas into effective engineering solutions.
