The Role


We’re looking for an accomplished and well-rounded Actuarial Data Scientist to revolutionize actuarial and risk solutions using Python. This position will report to the Director of Actuarial Operations and Risk Management. 

Your day-to-day


  • Leverage advanced Python programming language to automate and improve pricing, reserving and risk management solutions.
  • Develop and maintain actuarial, risk and forecasting tools using relevant actuarial, statistical and data science methodologies.
  • Lead ratemaking and customer data analysis to provide rating insights and make recommendations on rates. 
  • Own filing requirements review and prepare filings for regulatory authorities; this includes actuarial memo, indication, and modeling related supporting exhibits.
  • Communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders to share results of actuarial and risk analysis, and provide reserving, pricing, and other actuarial services to support our parent company.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to curate and support delivery of actuarial products and services, ensuring exceptional performance and identifying opportunities for growth and product expansion.
  • Initiate the ideation and development of new product offerings, with the potential for direct involvement and ownership of analysis, technical design, and output.
  • About You


    • BS/BA in Math, Statistics, Economics or similar relevant experience
    • Passed 5 or more Actuarial exams
    • 4+ years of Python experience with proficiency in packages such as Pandas, NumPy, and Scikit-learn.
    • 5+ years of solid P&C experience and experience automating existing solutions
    • Experience with data visualization libraries like Matplotlib and Seaborn. 
    • Proficient with relational databases and querying languages such as SQL or Snowflake
    • Familiar with Data Science machine learning algorithms and experiment design principles
    • Experience with data visualization tools such as Redash or Tableau
    • Ability to apply analytical and statistical concepts to build models and interpret GLM output
    • Strong understanding of insurance principles, reserving techniques, and regulatory requirements relevant to personal lines insurance
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams or autonomously
    • Entrepreneurial mindset and drive to innovate and expand our product offerings

    Bonus Points


    • ACAS or FCAS
    • You have experience with the Python Chainladder package, objective oriented programming, time series, machine learning, or other actuarial-specific libraries. 
    • Familiarity with telematics data and its applications in pricing, underwriting, and risk assessment
    • Prior experience in non-traditional actuarial roles (ridesharing, InsurTech) or a range of traditional roles (e.g. Pricing, reserving, modeling, ERM)
    • Experience building insurance product from ground up

    Salary:


    $184,000to $250,000**Please note that the final salary offered will be determined based on the selected candidate's skills, and experience, as well as the internal salary structure at Quanata. Our aim is to offer a competitive and equitable compensation package that reflects the candidate's expertise and contributions to our organization.

    • Location: We are a remote-first company for most positions so you may work from anywhere you like in the U.S, excluding U.S. territories.  Occasional travel may be required for team meetings or company gatherings.  Employees based in the San Francisco Bay Area or in Providence, Rhode Island may commute to one of our local offices as desired.  
    • Hours: We maintain core meeting hours from 9AM - 3PM Pacific time for collaborating with team members across all time zones.
