The Material Handling Supervisor will oversee freight operations and dock labor on show site for assigned events. This position will manage material handling processes and conduct show planning including but not limited to labor and equipment, job assignments, hours of operation, paperwork procedures, timekeeping, and job costing.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES


  • Oversee dock labor and operations to ensure a safe working environment and appropriate work allocation
  • Train dock labor on company processes and procedures when needed
  • Communicate with decorating operations and the show Account Executive on the move-in and move-out schedule of each show
  • Collaborate with facility managers to ensure that all facility rules and regulations are followed at all times
  • Coordinate with the In-House Material Receiving Supervisor/Lead/Foreman on the flow of warehouse freight to show site and vice versa
  • Determine needs and request equipment, tools, and labor required for show production
  • Ensure that all paperwork procedures are followed as outlined in departmental SOPs
  • Ensure job costs are kept to a minimum without sacrificing service to the customer
  • Ensure the location of all rigging and machinery; order and supervise all drivers and machine operators and related equipment such as cranes and large capacity forklifts
  • Conduct show site safety and service meetings with the material handling team
  • Properly analyze and explain invoices to exhibitors and collect all monies due; aid CSRs in collecting disputed invoices
  • Use the labor budgeting process to project labor and analyze labor needs
  • Produce accurate payroll forms and timecards for on-site labor
  • Complete post-show recap after the completion of each show
  • Contact exhibitors regarding shortages, damages, or re-routes on outbound shipment
  • All other duties as assigned

Requirements


  • 2+ years of industry experience required, supervisory experience a plus

  • Experience working with unions and managing labor relations preferred

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write reports and correspondence

  • Critical thinking, sound reasoning, and decision-making skills

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts

  • Able to quote prices, schedule staff, and provide excellent customer service

  •   Familiar with current material handling rates, show rules and regulations, association requirements, and pertinent information to show

  •  Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful, and time-sensitive environment

  • Must be able to pass an MVR screening

  • College degree preferred; equivalent experience may be exchanged for formal education
