Position Overview This NOC Engineer I position is responsible for applying in-depth knowledge of the network and networking protocols along with excellent communication skills to perform in-depth troubleshooting of all issues that arise.Essential Job FunctionsNetwork Operations Engineer-Level 1 is responsible for the continuous monitoring and management of the customer networks to ensure alarm receipt and processing procedures are followed. The position will be responsible for generating and processing tickets for technical support and service.
Position will identify alarms, raise requests and will perform basic diagnostics of the problem and dispatch it as required to the appropriate Carriers or to dispatch field service technician and/or parts. Other activities may include:
- Provides technical feedback to engineering concerning design/product changes/enhancements.
- Performs the responsibilities in a high pressure, short timeline environment, which includes managing and responding to aggressive customers.
- Understands, applies and maintains network standards as documented by Architecture & Engineering.
- Conducts detailed MOP reviews and MOP de confliction to ensure minimal customer impact during scheduled maintenances
Requirements
- Experience: 1+ yrs
- Education Level: Associate Degree
- Field Of Study: Telecommunications or related field
- A combination of education and experience is acceptable
Although not compulsory the following would be ideal
- Technical further education, or degree
- Appropriate technical certifications, such as Cisco (CCNA or CCNP), Ciena(CE-A or CE-P), MEF CECP, Juniper (JNCIA or JNCIP)
Interpersonal Abilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Good troubleshooting skills and methodologies
- Experienced in analyzing issues, distilling and communicating their relevant aspects
- Ability to identify risks/issues and develop recommendations for resolution
- Shift work and on-call flexibility (primarily day shift with on-call rotation)
- Attention to detail with good organizational capabilities

- Experience with the following equipment: Fujitsu Flashwave product line (9500 series, 7500, 7420, 4100, 4100es, 4020, 4500); Turin Force 10 equipment; Ciena Optical and Ethernet equipment (CESD 3930, 3931, 3960, 5150, 5410 and ActivFlex 6500 etc...); MRV Optiswitch (OS9000, OS900); Juniper MX and EX Series
- SME in Transport Equipment
- Ability to effectively isolate issues in a very timely manner
- Extremely proficient in using Netsmart 1500 & Netsmart 500
- Extremely proficient troubleshooting SONET(OC-3, OC-12, OC-48)
- Thorough understanding of SONET and DWDM theory(C-band, L-band, wavelengths)
- Thorough understanding of Linear and Ring topologies
- Thorough understanding of sub-tended equipment and circuits
- Through understanding of Ethernet and Routed Networks
- Ability to effectively drive a MOP
- Ability to trend issues and co-ordinate work with Optical Engineering to resolve
- Requires little to no supervision
- Experience with test sets(JDSU, T-berd, Exfo)
