Position Overview:
We are looking for a detail-oriented Freight Payment Specialist to join our team! The ideal candidate will be confident, organized, and process-driven, with a strong background in logistics and supply chain operations. As a Freight Payment Specialist, you will be the primary contact for carriers, assisting with freight invoice validation, processing, and ensuring timely payments. This role requires exceptional communication skills, meticulous attention to detail, proactive customer service abilities, and strong problem-solving skills in a deadline-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Invoice Validation and Processing: Validate and process freight invoices, ensuring that all charges have proper approval and compliance with company policies.
- Document Reconciliation: Interpret invoices and other documents from external companies to reconcile with internal systems, including maintaining statements of accounts for assigned carriers and collecting required documents.
- Discrepancy Resolution: Research and resolve carrier discrepancies and past due amounts, employing analytical skills to reach productive decisions.
- Account Reconciliation: Perform account reconciliations, efficiently handling large sets of data to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to support operational goals and identify opportunities for process improvements.
- Issue Management: Handle basic issues and problems under direct supervision, escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff for resolution.
What We’re Looking For:
- Strong knowledge of logistical concepts, supply chain terminology, and drayage operations best practices.
- Minimum of 1 year of port/drayage operations experience required.
- Highly analytical with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to analyze complex situations and make informed decisions.
- Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounts payable principles.
- Strong experience with MS Excel, including the ability to create pivot tables and use VLOOKUP formulas.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with freight auditing and invoice processing.
- Familiarity with intermodal transportation and related industries.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Strong collaborative and team-based approach to problem-solving.The expected salary range for this role is $30-35/hour. The actual base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
