Summary:  

The Human Resources Generalist performs duties at the professional level in a variety of functional areas including recruitment and onboarding, legal compliance, benefits, employee relations, staff meetings, and training as needed. The generalist contributes and supports the goals and outcomes of human resources objectives that provide an employee-oriented, collaborative culture that emphasizes empowerment and diversity.

Recruiting


Lead all aspects of recruitment including:

  • Collaborate with hiring managers to understand the skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Lead full cycle recruiting process, maintain current job descriptions, ensure appropriate visibility, and support managers in candidate selection.
  •  Conduct initial phone screening interviews.
  • Handle all communication with applicants and unsuccessful candidates.
  • Coordinate candidate interviews with the hiring manager.
  • Conduct reference checks.
  • Administer hiring status in HRIS system.  

Employee Onboarding


Handle all administrative tasks for the onboarding process for all new employees including:

  • Send offer letters and all applicable pre-hire authorization/requirements.
  • Ensure that background checks, references, and other required documentation are completed.
  • Schedule and meet with employees on their first day to complete other required paperwork. 
  • Prepare and distribute new employee orientation materials.
  • Enter new hire information into HRIS and audit for accuracy and compliance. 
  • Prepare new hire folder, schedule, and coordinate with IT department and manager to deliver an exceptional first-day experience.

Employee Files/HRM Database


Responsible for all employee file maintenance including:

  • Create and maintain personnel files for employees following State and Federal regulations.
  • Ensure appropriate records retention guidelines are followed.
  • Updating HRIS systems with status changes, new hire forms, and payroll changes as needed.
  • Monitor training compliance.
  • Respond to employment inquiries (employment verification, unemployment claims, requests for personnel files, etc.)
  • Assist employees and volunteers with routine department inquiries.
  • Attend meetings, training, and workshops as required.

Other generalist duties as assigned


Other Skills and Abilities:  


  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Strong skills working with MS Office and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Must be detail-oriented, well-organized, and have a proactive and future-minded approach to problem-solving,
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and recommend solutions.
  • Work effectively with all levels of staff and outside sources in the completion of responsibilities.
  • Experience with ADP preferred.
  • Satisfactory results from DOJ background check (post-employment offer requirement).

Education and Experience


  • At least 2 years of full cycle recruiting experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field desired, or any combination of education and experience that satisfactorily meets job requirements.
  • (S)PHR or SHRM – (S) CP preferred.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
