Please apply today!    We are seeking an experienced Lead Operations Cloud Engineer to join the IT Operations team supporting our federal customer’s Chief Information Officer.  The successful candidate will be part of a team that designs, develops, implements, and creates creative solutions that increase the efficiency and effectiveness of highly reliable and available solutions.

The candidate should have AWS Cloud experience and be able to work with AWS native tools. The ideal candidate will also have hands-on experience with AWS services such as EC2, RDS, S3, VPC, and Lambda. They should have experience working with DevOps methodologies, automation, and deploying infrastructure as code. In this position, the Cloud Engineer will manage and deliver functionality in close collaboration with clients, ensuring successful oversight and client delivery of impacted projects. Experience working in Federal IT organizations and with the AWS Landing Zone (LZ) environment is preferred. Essential Functions 

  • Work with the Operations team and stakeholders to support the transition of applications from on-premise and other cloud technologies to AWS. Develop prototype, design and architect application(s) that will be scalable to expand to across Federal customer’s component agencies, and external government stakeholder agencies using a secure and reliable architecture and infrastructure.
  • Lead and manage the internal team of system engineers, system administrators, ISSO, and other operational support and coordinate with system architects, developers, and product owners to implement approaches that use current industry best practices.
  • Consult with vendor product specialists/sales, independent research organizations, on-site support engineers, and fellow architects and administrators on best-fit technologies to ensure compliance with department policies, standards, and technology roadmap.
  • Analyze the organization’s operations and design and manage its AWS system structures. Leverage a broad understanding of technology areas and end-to-end knowledge of current installations to craft architectural solutions or standards that can be applied across the enterprise.
  • Develop cloud adoption plans, determine cloud application design, and create systems for managing, monitoring, and maintaining the cloud system.
  • Manage and monitor cloud resources and automate processes using tools like AWS Cloud Formation, AWS Config, AWS Trusted Advisor, AWS CloudTrail, CloudWatch, Powershell, Terraform, and Ansible CI/CD.
  • Develop solutions that maximize the performance, scalability, and stability of systems.
  • Utilize networking expertise to ensure solutions are applicable for IT environment.
  • Collaborate with the designated ISSO to develop Authorization to Operate (ATO) for service offerings.
  • Maintain documentation of AWS architecture, configurations, and procedures. 
  • Stay updated with the latest AWS services, trends, and best practices.
  • Provide direct support to technical and non-technical entities to define requirements and deliver solutions to meet organizational needs, including new environment deployment, upgrades, performance tuning, testing, and disaster recovery.
  • Provide expert guidance to development teams regarding infrastructure.
  • Document and Knowledge transfer; document pipeline architecture, design decisions, and setup instructions for future reference and onboarding of new team members.
  • Produce architectural framework documents (i.e., white papers, guidance documents, best practices, technical reports, etc.).
  • Communicate complex technical concepts to individuals of various technical abilities.
  • Design and test large-scale workload and data migrations.
  • Integrate cloud services with on-premises technologies.

Education/Skills/Experience Requirements: 

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience designing, deploying, and maintaining AWS-based solutions.
  • Experience leading IT operations teams.
  • Have or be able to obtain a Department of Justice Public Trust Investigation, Tier 2.
  • Proficiency in programming languages like Java, Node.js, PHP, Python, and Ruby on Rails.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of concepts of designing and developing dynamic Cloud solutions and moving parts involved in continuous integration and delivery.
  • Demonstrated understanding and skill in DevOps, web services, and application programming interfaces (APIs).
  • Experience in traditional IT Operations environments, with working knowledge of the following:
  • Web Development 
  • Low code/No Code application Development
  • XML (Schema/Exchanges) 
  • Platform/Application Administration (Linux, Windows) 
  • Workflow Software (ServiceNow, MS Dynamics) 
  • Identity Management (Authentication, Authorization, Directories)
  • Experience working in an Agile environment.
  • Experience with systems engineering and enterprise architectures in AWS Cloud environments, with a strong understanding of AWS services such as EC2, RDS, S3, VPC, and Lambda
  • Proficient with a combination of the following: Okta, Splunk, PowerShell, Terraform, Ansible, CloudWatch, CloudFormation
  • Extensive use of AWS Cloud products, preferably for government customers
  • Demonstrated experience in a Dev Ops environment, using Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) principles to accomplish client objectives.
  • An AWS Cloud Certification is desired (AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified Dev Ops Engineer, or AWS Certified SysOps Administrator).

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Must be detail-oriented.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be able to interact with internal and external clients effectively and professionally. 
  • Ability to work with no supervision.
  • Must have proven experience meeting tight deadlines.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Must be hands-on and take proactive ownership of projects.
