POSITION SUMMARY
The Manager of Tissue Recovery Services ensures that the Tissue Recovery Services team provide high quality service at all times so that all donor potential is maximized and providing clinical and administrative management to full time and per diem tissue recovery personnel of all regional recovery locations. The Manager of Tissue Recovery Services also collects, reviews, analyzes, and prepares monthly reports and activity performance measures of all recovery locations, as well as implements and monitors for compliance, meeting all federal guidelines.
This individual actively fosters an organizational culture that is based on collaboration, support, and constructive feedback. The Manager of Tissue Recovery Services provides input as needed into policy development and other organizational decisions.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides leadership and direction to the Tissue Recovery Services team to maximize high quality tissue donation and recovery within its designated service area.
- Develops strategic and operational plans to assure alignment with Donor Network West mission and organizational goals.
- Oversees the development and implementation of policies and practices that result in safe and high quality organ, eye and tissue for transplantation, research and education.
- Establishes, communicates and monitors performance metrics that support organizational goals and reflects department performance.
- Creates and fosters positive professional relationships for enhanced collaboration with Donor Network West employees, customers, partners, and stakeholders.
- Manages assigned staff and develops a team oriented environment, focused on the accomplishment of Donor Networks West’s mission including: recruitment and selection, scheduling and job assignment, training and development, counseling and coaching, appraisal and recognition, goal setting, and recommending salary, promotional, and corrective actions in accordance with existing policies and procedures.
- Ensures Donor Network West meets American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB), Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA), Association of Organ Procurement Organization (AOPO) standards and CA state licensure requirements. Oversees the proper creation, approval and implementation of policies and assumes responsibility for operations of all of the Tissue Recovery Services department, including compliance with all current federal, state, and/or local laws and regulations, including those of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), state and local regulations, standards, and the Tissue Recovery Services department’s own standard operating procedures (SOP) manual. Provides a lead role in assessing and responding to regulatory audits of Recovery Services functions.
- Reviews tissue allocation and recovery activity. Identifies successful areas and develops action plans to address areas in need of improvement.
- Maintains state of the art knowledge of the organ, tissue and eye donation process, with a key focus on donation process improvement through active membership in professional associations and attendance at workshops and seminars.
- Takes a leadership role in staff education and training. Conducts or participates in formal and informal in-services for new and existing staff, as well as educational programs with hospital personnel to create awareness and facilitation of the donation process.
- Manages and participates in the schedule of Tissue Leader on Call (TLC).
- Provides information and support for functions of Donor Records Department to ensure that donor charts are reviewed and released in a manner and timeframe conducive to maintain the highest standards of practice and regulatory compliance.
- Interacts with the Quality Systems Department to ensure monitoring activities related to recovery services, including a documented annual internal review/audit to ensure compliance with SOP manual.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Possesses strong decision-making capabilities and excellent communication skills with an ability to effectively engage with internal and external donation partners.
- Demonstrate leadership and management skills, strong interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated team commitment. Excellent communications skills required. This includes both written and spoken communications with team members, donation partners, peers, and senior management.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Biologic Science or equivalent degree in a health related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Significant experience in organ, tissue and/or eye procurement industry may be substituted for educational requirement.
- 5 years’ experience in organ procurement and/or tissue banking industry; five years of management or supervisory experience in a health-related field is preferred.
- AATB or EBAA certification preferred.
