Atomic Machines is on Earth to radically advance humanity’s command over matter.  Our mission is real-time bits-to-atoms manufacturing of anything at any scale, and to that end, we’re developing an entirely new digital micro-device manufacturing platform that is going to redefine how things are made, and do so while simultaneously enabling the rapid creation at any scale of new classes of machines – think medical micro-robotics, true lab-on-chip microfluidics, tunable antennas, ultrafast high-power and high-frequency RF switching devices and many more.  The first device we are building with our platform has exceptional large-scale product/market fit and commercial traction, and we are pushing hard to share it with the world.
Our offices are in Berkeley and Santa Clara, California.

About the role:


We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Controller to join our Finance team. This role is ideal for a proactive, hands-on financial leader who is looking to make a big impact at an exciting and fast paced start up. This role will report to the Head of Finance. While you will initially be an IC, you will be expected to hire and lead a team to scale the function as the business grows. The role can be located in either our Berkeley or Santa Clara office.

What You’ll Do:


  • Manage all accounting functions for the company, driving a robust monthly and annual close process. 
  • Build an efficient accounts payable and accounts receivable operation.
  • Collaborate on the selection and implementation of accounting and financial infrastructure software.
  • Run point on our annual external audit. Ensure accounting practices comply with audit requirements. Maintain documentation and information required to support a smooth audit process.  
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Own cost accounting activities, including the development of cost standards for materials and labor. Analyze manufacturing costs and drive efficiency and transparency through reporting. 
  • Deliver timely and accurate financial reporting for internal and external stakeholders and to support decision making.
  • Assist in product pricing decisions and evaluate cost-saving opportunities.
  • Work with external tax advisors to ensure accurate and timely tax filings.

What You’ll Need:


  • CPA with an advanced understanding of GAAP for manufacturing businesses. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Mathematics or other technical discipline. 
  • 7+ years of experience in general accounting, cost accounting, financial operations, or strategic finance at a manufacturing company. At least 2 years in a Controller role.
  • Experience in the manufacturing industry, with a strong understanding of cost accounting and inventory management.
  • Advanced proficiency in accounting software.

Preferred Skills and Experience:


  • Builder’s mindset with the demonstrated ability to collaborate and execute. 
  • Big 4 accounting firm experience.
  • Experience setting up accounting infrastructure in a manufacturing environment. 
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with SQL, experience developing BI dashboards a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to adapt in a dynamic environment.
  • Desire to work in a startup and a high-growth environment.
