At Lyterian Therapeutics, we are committed to developing medicines for patients in need by co-opting physiologically-relevant protein homeostatic mechanisms to regulate genetically-validated targets.
As a Post-Baccalaureate in Protein Sciences/Biophysics you will be responsible for producing high-quality protein and protein complex reagents relevant to our protein homeostasis drug discovery platform to support downstream structural, biophysical, and biochemical mechanism of action studies. In addition, you will maintain mammalian/insect cell expression systems for recombinant protein production. By collaborating closely with a diverse team of scientists, you will help define the fundamental biology behind chemically induced protein homeostasis. We look for team members who are inspired by our mission and want to work in a collaborative, rigorous, and entrepreneurial environment.
We seek colleagues who are self-motivated, innovative, proactive, and possess an innate curiosity to discover novel biology and new drugs. Efficient time management, excellent organizational and communication skills, and passion for high-quality, translational science are essential. We offer: As a post-baccalaureate (6–12-month appointment), we are seeking individuals looking to take a gap year between undergraduate education and the pursuit of an advanced degree (MS, PhD, MD, etc.). In this position you will gain invaluable experience in how the drug discovery and development process works at a start-up company. The successful candidate will be exposed to internal seminars focused on techniques, projects, and leveraging data for downstream decision-making.
In addition, your supervisor will help you coordinate informational interviews with their extended network so that you acquire a more in-depth picture and understanding of requirements for advanced degrees at various institutions.
Impact You Will Make:
- Gain hands-on knowledge and experience in the design, expression, and purification of recombinant proteins using a variety of host systems to enable high-throughput screening and structural, biophysical, and biochemical characterization of challenging protein targets and complexes
- Execute in vitro and in vivo protein production workflows that can be used internally or transferred to CROs as needed
- Evaluate protein stability, solubility, purity and oligomerization state via a variety of different techniques such as nanoDSF, DLS, and mass photometry
- Maintain mammalian and insect cell lines, ensuring aseptic technique, for in-house recombinant protein production
- Register protein lots and vectors in an internal database
- Gain exposure to state-of-the-art structural biology techniques, biophysical instrumentation, and biochemical assays used to characterize proteins and complexes
- Record experimental data in Electronic Lab Notebooks to ensure good record-keeping
- Present experimental work at cross-functional program team meetings
Qualifications:
- BA/BS in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related discipline with 0-1 years of relevant experience
- Knowledge of basic wet lab techniques, molecular biology techniques, and tissue culture
- Prior experience in a lab setting (undergraduate research, internship, etc.) is required
- Ability to keep a detailed and organized lab notebook
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently, communicate clearly, and work with multidisciplinary project teams
- An interest in understanding protein structure and function relationships, protein-protein or protein-ligand binding interactions and enzyme mechanisms related to protein homeostasis drug discovery
