Job Summary
The Voice Systems Engineer II researches, designs, develops, integrates, tests, documents, and oversees the installation of electrical communication systems at Kennedy Space Center including analog and digital Voice Communications systems. Employee will be working on the OIS-Q2 (Operational Intercommunication System), PAWS( Paging Area waring System), Radio Trunking System, and Unified Power Systems at Kennedy Space Center.This is a represented staff position with the IBEW Union.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Establish and schedule work schedules. Frequent use and application of communication engineering standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques.
- Applies advanced com engineering principles, theories and concepts.
- Contributes to development of new principles and concepts
- Work is complex and solutions are highly innovative and ingenious.
- Work toward predetermined long-range objectives.
- Assignments are often self-initiated.
- Serves as the organization spokesperson on advanced projects and/or programs.
- Failure to achieve critical contract objectives could affect the company’s technological image and capabilities.
- Acts as advisor to management and customers on advanced technical research studies.
- Identifies and prioritizes tasks to meet critical program milestones.
- Actively coordinates with customers on technical projects to consult on scope and schedule.
- Establish voice comm system requirements and define system architectures.
- Produce voice comm installation designs and documentation.
- Develop system Acceptance Test Procedures, Functional Test Procedures, and Operational Instructions.
- Work with Drafting team members to create and maintain detailed system drawings.
- Integrate custom and COTS products into current voice comm systems architecture and design.
- Perform sustaining engineering such as obsolescence part replacement, software upgrades, server maintenance, failure analysis and trending.
- Orchestrate system troubleshooting efforts for escalated trouble calls.
- Create engineering instructions for work orders affecting system design and configuration changes.
- Research and order materials/components that meet voice systems specifications.
- Assess system upgrade/expansion projects and provide labor and material estimates.
- Provide solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity.
- Works under general supervision.
Requirements
Requirements and skills
- 16+ years of systems engineering experience in communications systems.
- Previous NASA communications system experience.
- Experience working with Quintron and Frequentis Intercommunications systems.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles and technologies.
- Working knowledge of IP networks, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) commands and OS, computer and server administration, database management.
- General understanding of T-Carrier systems, P25 Trunk Radio system, channel banks, DC power systems, simple mechanical design.
- Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to pass a NASA background investigation.
- Must be able to pass an initial and random drug testing.
- Must have and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology from an engineering program and 16+ years of Engineering Experience
OR
- Master’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology from an engineering program and 14 years of Engineering Experience
- ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Physical Requirements
- Normally works in an environmentally controlled setting.
- Occasionally works at customer sites to include outdoors.
- Hybrid work schedule possible.
- Requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
