Midwest Valve Services, a Novaspect company is currently offering an opportunity for a Shop Manager to join our fast paced, customer oriented team. The successful candidate will exemplify and promote Novaspect Identity throughout the repair team while overseeing and managing a team of technicians performing valve repairs to a specified work schedule. The Shop Manager must ensure proper execution and adherence to all company repair procedures, safety policies and the Quality Assurance (QA) manual.

Additionally, the Shop Manager role maintains high standards and productivity of all jobs while providing customer satisfaction and company profitability.Shop Manager Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the performance and assist with the professional development of Shop Supervisors and Repair Team.
  • Provide day-to-day management of Supervisors, Repair Technicians, Machinists, Welders, Testers, and Warehouse staff.
  • Ensure repair team is receiving the appropriate training according to their architecture level and adhering to all safety guidelines.
  • Review repair options and select the most appropriate method and tooling to complete assigned tasks.
  • Work with Shop Supervisors to assign technicians meeting the technical skill requirements for completing shop/field repairs, and review work scope requirements through Pre-Job Briefs.
  • Work in conjunction with the General Manager and Shop Supervisors to support the Repair Coordinator with the quoting process and communicate any out of scope or change order requirements during repairs.
  • Ensure that all repair documentation is complete and meets all customer and/or company requirements.
  • Ensure that all company business system tools are utilized and incorporated within daily work processes.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize shop workflow and technician productivity.
  • Maintain a clean and organized shop, execute equipment preventative maintenance program through weekly building, vehicle, equipment and safety inspections.
  • Identify any special tools, outside services, additional labor requirements or special-order parts required to complete the job within the specified timeframe and budget.
  • Work in conjunction with the General Manager, Shop Supervisors and Project Managers to maintain the service calendar and provide up-to-date technician availability to both our customers and sales team including resources, equipment and vehicles.
  • Maintain communication with Shop Supervisors, Project Managers, and if necessary, Field Technicians to have an understanding of work scope progress and help support any changes in the job scope or timetable.
  • In Conjunction with the General Manager review all job performance satisfaction forms, evaluate results and provide recognition or improvements where appropriate.
  • Ensure proper equipment meets departmental needs.
  • Promote Novaspect Identity and a culture of quality workmanship.
  • Work with the Safety and Quality Management team to optimize safety both in the shop and field; perform weekly toolbox talks with the team.
  • May work extended hours or weekends as needed to support outage and customer needs (seasonal).

RequirementsShop Manager Education and/or Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of industrial experience, industrial maintenance preferred.
  • 3+ years of managing people required.
  • High School diploma required.

Shop Manager Additional Requirements:

  • Efficiently manage difficult situations and respond promptly to internal customer needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal communication skills.
  • Provides candid feedback to others as needed and navigates crucial conversations.
  • Motivates others and drives a strategic vision within the organization.
  • Proven ability to build followership and create cohesive teams.
  • High computer application literacy (including Microsoft Office Suite, and ability to learn internal business systems).
  • Knowledge of proper safety procedures.

Shop Manager Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects/tools
  • Ability to work with hand tools
  • Ability to work at heights
  • Ability to stoop, crawl and crouch while working on equipment on hands and knees
  • Ability to work on your feet for 8 hours per day
  • Ability to work in a loud industrial environment
  • Comfortable working around industrial equipment with exposed moving parts
  • Ability to climb stairs (up to 20 flights per day)
  • Ability to drive 8 hours as needed in a day – although not typical
  • Ability to work in high and cold temperature environments for extended hours

Shop Manager Pay:

  • $105k - $125k plus 10% bonus earning potential
