Position Summary:
The Assistant Technical Supervisor assists the department Technical Supervisor with day-to-day operation of the department. He/she can function in a supervisory capacity in the absence of the Technical Supervisor for the entire department. Assists the Technical Supervisor in maintaining the overall quality and required regulatory documentation within the department. Applies Genova value statements and Quality Principles to their work.
Day Shift/Rotating Weekends
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists the Technical Manager and Technical Supervisor with the following responsibilities, including but not limited to:
- Monitoring quality control, resolving quality assurance issues.
- Personnel management including training, competency assessment, and annual employee evaluations (specific duties to be defined, e.g. specimen processing).
- Record keeping for internal and external proficiency testing.
- Troubleshooting of testing and equipment and with general problem solving.
- Monitoring and improving the technical performance of assays in the department.
- Maintaining adequate supplies for operation of the department and setting up standing orders.
- Updating of procedures and maintenance records.
- Evaluation and implementation of new procedures and equipment.
- Monitoring and improving cost effectiveness.
- Maintaining good safety practices in the department.
- Accurate and timely reporting of test results.
- Planning and implementation of daily workflow scheduling.
- TAT monitoring.
- Scheduling and monitoring instrument maintenance and service.
- Answering inquiries and provides information to internal and external clients.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The Assistant Technical Supervisor can function in a supervisory capacity in the absence of the Technical Supervisor for the entire department. Any staff disciplinary issues need to be coordinated with the Technical Supervisor and Technical Manager.

Education and/or Experience:
This position requires a MD, DO, Ph.D., MS or BS in Medical Technology or a Chemical, Physical, or Biological science from an accredited institution. Laboratory training or experience is required; the number of years is dependent on the degree held. Schedule follows:
- If MD, DO or Ph.D. degrees must have 2 year of subsequent clinical laboratory training or experience
- If MS degree must have 4 years of subsequent clinical laboratory training or experience, 2 years of which are in area of supervision
- If MT degree must have 6 years of subsequent clinical laboratory training or experience, 2 years of which are in area of supervision
- If BS degree must have 7 years of subsequent clinical laboratory training or experience, 2 years of which are in area of supervision
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to learn and utilize the laboratory information system.
