The AVP Senior Portfolio Manager will assume responsibility for providing investment management expertise for all aspects of the VIA. The Portfolio Manager will work closely with the Head of VIA and Chief Compliance Officer, as well as other senior management, to ensure consistent and appropriate monitoring and oversight of mutual funds and their sub-advisors. This position offers a unique opportunity to help build out the VIA’s investment capabilities. Financial markets background working in a manager of managers structure is critical to the success of this role.
Primary responsibilities will include monitoring and oversight of mutual funds and their sub-advisers, including but not limited to:
- ongoing due diligence and sub-adviser reviews
- review of asset allocation and underlying fund selection
- formulating investment objectives and principal investment strategies
- performance and risk reporting relative to benchmarks and peers
- ensuring portfolios are being managed according to their investment guidelines
- reporting to the Board of Trustees of the mutual funds
- Collaborate with Head of the VIA to develop an investment due diligence program
- Manage and oversee data systems and reporting tools related to portfolio management of the mutual funds
- Responsible for the quarterly preparation of meeting materials, in coordination with sub-advisors and other relevant service providers
- Contribute to ongoing design and launch of new funds/structures, and any changes to investment strategies
- Oversee the investments review for the annual contract renewal of advisory and sub-advisory agreements
- Manage relationships with subadvisors and other key service providers
- Continually review the investment process for refinement, seeking opportunities to optimize performance
- Keep informed of market developments and other potential impacts to the VIA
- Assist in regulatory reporting as needed, such as preparation of the annual shareholder letter
- Collaborate on special projects, as needed
Key Qualifications:
- CFA Charterholder or MBA required
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in investment management; experience in a variable insurance company framework is a plus
- Experience working in a manager of managers structure a plus
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills and the ability to simplify complex concepts and work effectively with all levels of the organization
- Demonstrated ability to deliver results under pressure in a tight timeframe, while managing and negotiating competing priorities and deadlines
- Excellent management orientation and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of and experience with various types of mutual fund products
- Experience with investment management analytical applications (e.g. Bloomberg, Blackrock Aladdin, Lipper, Morningstar, Zephyr StyleAdvisor or related products)
