About Atomic Semi
Atomic Semi is building a small, fast semiconductor fab. It’s already possible to build this with today’s technology and a few simplifications. We’ll build the tools ourselves so we can quickly iterate and improve. We’re building a small team of exceptional, hands-on engineers to make this happen. Mechanical, electrical, hardware, computer, and process. We’ll own the stack from atoms to architecture. Our team is optimistic about the future and we want to continue pushing the limits of technology.Smaller is better.
Faster is better. Building it ourselves is better. We believe our team and lab can build anything. We’ve set up 3D printers, a wide array of microscopes, e-beam writers, general fabrication equipment - and whatever is missing, we’ll just invent along the way.Atomic was founded by Sam Zeloof and Jim Keller. Sam is best known for making chips in his garage, and Jim has been a leader in the semiconductor industry for the past 40 years.
About the team
Complex companies like ours live and die based on operations. All activities at Atomic Semi - running experiments, delivering precise, integrated hardware products, and launching products, require significant operational lift. A good operations team significantly speeds up the rest of the organization, removing roadblocks and creating infrastructure for others to do great work.Outside of operations (facilities, procurement, admin, etc.), the operations team takes on a wide variety of work, acting as a catch-all for functions we have yet to spin up.
The team’s responsibilities are diverse, meaning in a given week you could be working on anything from finance to IT to a legal project and anything in-between.
About the role
There’s two types of work the operations team works on. There is reactive work, which is done as it comes up, and proactive work, which we plan for:Reactive work:
Solve problems as they come up (e.g. importing a business-critical component, or unblocking engineers on procurement or facilities issues.)
Run processes on a continual basis (e.g. approve purchases according to our purchase policy, execute our monthly close, etc.)
Proactive work:
Build new processes/automations to reduce reactive work (e.g. automate manual parts of our finance stack, build a process for onboarding vendors)
Build infrastructure that lets the company grow (e.g. build new financial models, set up inventory tracking system)
The proposed split for this role is about 50/50 between proactive and reactive. The operations team currently works on a wide variety of types of work, so we’re looking for a generalist who doesn’t shy away from figuring things out or trying new things.
Responsibilities
Run and build processes
Solve problems as they come up
Build financial and operational infrastructure for the company
Required qualifications
Excellent written and verbal communication
Familiarity with common software/ operations systems
Ability to stay on top of a wide variety of tasks with high reliability
At least some experience with logistics or running/building processes
Nice-to-have(s)
Past experience in the following areas is nice but not required:
Operations roles
Finance
Hardware/mechanical engineering or science
