The Role:
We are looking for a
Senior Counsel, Data and Privacy to join our Legal Department. This role will serve as the primary coverage for data protection, governance and privacy issues and work with InfoSec, Compliance and other internal stakeholders and outside counsel to ensure compliance with privacy and data protection laws while enabling data-driven innovation. You will also provide legal support to other areas such as IP, employment law, litigation, and other corporate matters. The ideal candidate will have the ability to think and act both strategically and tactically with respect to the needs and objectives of our business while ensuring that the company remains compliant with various data protection and other laws and regulations as well as industry best practices in data and financial services.
Location:
Hybrid role based out of our Soho, NY office. This role requires 1-3 days a week in office.
Responsibilities:
- Advise on the intersection between data, privacy laws, and financial services and the relevant legal and regulatory requirements as they pertain to Forge, including developing business-friendly legal guidelines for these activities.
- Identify requirements resulting from new and evolving privacy and data laws and regulations, and provide recommendations and guidance related to, among other things, data anonymization, application of artificial intelligence capabilities and data analytics.
- Collaborate with other internal stakeholders on regional privacy analysis and advice relating to Forge’s global products and services, including helping design controls for data environments used to support Forge’s various businesses.
- Monitor changing global laws relating to permissible use of customer data and regulatory requirements, facilitate the review of local requirements, develop internal legal guidelines to promote consistency and support the drafting and negotiation of third-party data processing contract terms.
- Stay abreast of regulatory developments and industry standards and revise and update policies, forms, and agreements as necessary.
- Provide legal support to other areas such as IP, trademark and patent related matters, HR (including HR policies and communications, hiring, disciplinary matters, etc.), litigation (provided inhouse support and work with outside counsel on litigation matters as needed), general corporate matters and vendor agreements.
- Work on cross-functional company initiatives and other special projects as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law.
- 3-4 years of experience in the areas described above. Ideal candidate will have a combination of law firm and in house experience.
- Understanding of US privacy laws and requirements and hands-on experience implementing privacy programs at growing companies; exposure to foreign privacy regimes and the ability to get up to speed quickly.
- Experience drafting and negotiating a broad range of commercial contracts and advising internal stakeholders with respect to the same.
- Willingness to provide support to other areas such as general corporate, HR and litigation and ability to get up to speed quickly and take ownership of different areas and projects.
- Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time in an office or home office setting while working.
For residents of San Francisco/Bay Area, CA or New York, NY the annual salary range for this role is $150k - $160k + bonus. Final offers may vary from the amount listed based on geography, candidate experience and expertise, bonus, and other factors
