Job Purpose


Supports the product-development process as an advocate for high quality standards, using testing, estimation, problem-solving, communication, and reporting skills. Builds on a foundation of prior QA experience to quickly learn technologies and processes. Operates both as a supportive team player and as a strong individual contributor, able to move the work forward independently. Provides QA from the beginning of feature development through delivery. Reports to a QA Manager.

Responsibilities


  • Providing QA input and perspective throughout the entire product-development lifecycle, following the principle of “shifting left”.
  • Along with the Senior QA/Lead QA, advocating for clear requirements and working with the entire product team to ensure these requirements are being met and established QA processes are being followed.
  • Actively participating in product meetings. Communicating QA needs to the QA Lead or other product leadership before the needs become urgent.
  • Following and improving the defined testing approach for the projects. Estimating basic QA tasks with minimal guidance from the QA Lead/Senior QA.
  • Continuously improving software development and testing processes by suggesting improvements and implementing best practices
  • Identifying and performing non-functional testing for the product under test
  • . Executing tests from test suites in support of product development.
  • Delivering test execution in a reasonable and timely manner, with minimal intervention by the QA Lead/Senior QA. Resolving simple blockers.
  • Assisting the QA Lead in documenting QA strategies for testing and testing summaries.
  • Executing existing test automation to reduce time spent manually testing products. Determining root cause of failed tests.
  • Designing QA tests using best-practices and techniques. Identifying test cases that are candidates for test automation.
  • Supporting product deployments with QA testing.
  • Finding, documenting, reproducing, and managing defects according to project procedures. Utilizing retesting and regression-testing effectively to ensure defect is fixed.

Adding test cases to prevent the issue reoccurring in future product iterations

Minimum Qualifications


Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Computer Science from an accredited post-secondary institution (or equivalent)

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities


  • Knowledge of fundamental QA processes, principles, and techniques
  • Ability to deliver QA documentation, including test summaries and test plans
  • Knowledge of Agile practices and processes
  • Skilled in designing tests using QA best-practices
  • Knowledge of common test types and requirements for testing
  • Strong communication skills and work ethic
  • Ability to run existing test automation and understand what is being tested
  • Skilled in problem solving and risk analysis
  • Knowledge of defect-tracking practices
  • Ability to estimate QA tasks
  • Works well as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Ability to build comprehensive test cases based upon user stories and acceptance criteria
  • Skilled in collecting and reporting useful QA metrics
  • Knowledge of software-testing tools and software components, including:
  • Database queries (SQL, NoSQL)
  • REST & SOAP APIs (and tools such as Postman)
  • Web design (e.g., HTML, CS, JavaScript)
  • At least one scripting language (e.g., Python, JS, Java, C#)
  • Browser dev tools
  • Knowledge of hardware-testing basics, including:
  • Serial and Wiegand Communication protocols
  • Basic wiring
  • Network troubleshooting, Static IP, Gateways, Subnet, DNS
  • Linux Scripting
  • 12v/24v Relays
  • Inductance Loop
  • CC Processing offline/online, EMV/Contactless
