The Staff Accountant is responsible for “full-cycle" A/P, A/R-Billing, Job Cost Accounting, financial statements, bank reconciliations, and monthly closing. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • A/R - billing of customer invoices and collection of customer payments in compliance with financial policies and procedures. 
  • Record day-to-day financial transactions, including verifying, classifying, computing, and recording accounts receivable, payable and other transactional data.
  • Monthly Bank Reconciliations 
  • Process payroll and record related payroll journal entries.
  • General ledger account reconciliations including prepaids and travel accounts.
  • Assist with preparing financial statements and updating budget schedules.
  • Assist in closing process. 
  • Other Financial Reporting, as needed.
  • Organize and maintain all vendor and accounting records. 
  • Perform weekly status reports for Controller and team. 
  • Research items; handle inquiries and information requests. 
  • Serves as a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.    

Qualifications


  • 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience required; proficiency with payables, payroll, general ledger, job costing, GAAP compliance a must.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field preferred

  • Highly organized. Thorough record-keeping, file organization, etc. 

  • Able to handle competing deliverables with various levels of complexity.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills

  • Strong MS Excel and MS Word skills are a must. 
  • Proven hands-on experience operating accounting software (Unanet is a Plus).
  • Understanding of Government contracting including Familiarity with the FAR 
  • Motivated – A self-starter with ability to multi-task, problem solve and take initiative. 
  • Capable of working in a demanding, deadline-driven environment  
  • An understanding and responsiveness to the sense of urgency associated with meeting financial deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving aptitude required; must be able to analyze needs and leverage accounting systems effectively to create value to customers.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of his / her work product.
